Thanks for the great app, just installed it today and am truly impressed! You should setup a donation link!

Have a few suggestions:

1) I second a previous comment that in thumbnail mode it's not that straightfoward to locate person. Personally I feel it would be more clear to have contact name below the thumbnail, just like the default contact shortcut.

2) Can you put vkb in landscape mode? The vkb in portrait mode is really nice, actually vkb and portrait mode fetures are what the original contact program should have.

3) I also find the text size in the the contact info a tad big.. And the call/sms button width a tad small. This is only for cosmetics, though.

4) I find the rotation sometimes tend to be stuck at portrait mode. I am pretty sure this is app related because I have other apps that auto rotates but never notices this issue before. Also, when rotating from landscape to portrait, the contact info layout is still stuck at the size/layout for landscape mode, i.e. The phone number button goes past the right side of the screen.

5) 3-number international code are not displayed correctly. For example, +123 becomes +12(3...).

6) I can confirm the timing issue with incremental search is quite random

7) Not sure about the idea of long-pressing contact on applet(widget), because long press invokes hildon-desktop editing mode.

Big thanks again.

Almost out of the oven... Next release will include the option to show the name under the thumbnail

I will add to the list but can't say it is a priority. Maybe after I implement a "real search" it will make more sense...

The good news is that we don't have to argue about that. You can change very easily most visual aspects of the contact details page - you just can't move things around but you can change size, color, font, background, border, ... Let me know if you are interested and I will write a quick guide (it is all about editing css files)

I have fixed (for the next release) the "style/layout" issue not adjusting but the autorotation is probably not application related. All that the application does is tell the window manager that wants to auto rotate... all the signals are created and dispatched outside the application.

This is a quite challenging one... The only real way to address the issue is have a quite extensive table with country calling codes. The international prefix is not the only problem, next we have to worry about how many digits the area code is and how many digits is actually the phone number prefix (some are 4, some are 3 and who knows what else).
It is something that I want to improve but it may end-up becoming a user preference. Most users will have just a few international codes on their phone. Check this link on wikipedia for international codes

Agreed but unfortunately it is not something that I can affect. The current one is not handled by the application. It is on the list....

Yes... and also can complicate things when you try to swipe your finger to move to a different desktop. That is why I decided with the not-so-obvious double click. Once I have a user configurable setting for how fast the double click has to be I think most people will find a setting that is comfortable enough. Still open for other ideas though...

Great. It would be nice to be able to add contacts without thumbnails. Is it possible to do that in the upcoming update?

Unfortunately not.... I will have to figure out something first... what is the goal? assign ring tones per group without using them on the desktop?

Unfortunately, not all contacts have pictures to put on the desktop. Thats why it would be nice to be able to add contacts of those without the thumbnails.

There is a reasonably easy solution: You can just assign one of the standard "avatars" to the contacts you don't have an image using the "stock contacts" application.

That is what I did and give you the chance to use different ones so you can tell them apart on the desktop (a green, a blue, ... )

I just fired up paint on my laptop. Created a 256x256 picture, made a solid background, added the contact name as text, saved as a jpg, copied over to my n900, used that for the avatar.

Now, for contacts that didn't have a picture, the picture has their name. So in MyContacts,I can see who it is. Doesn't help it you have a lot of contacts, but I did 30 in less than 1/2 hour.

A couple of suggestions for this app, if I may. It looks great, and I'd love to have the custom ringtones feature, but these thoughts would make it ideal for me, even if they weren't the defaults and could just be turned on by an option somewhere:

1) Enable the ability to send an SMS to any number. I have a lot of contacts from very old phones that have travelled with me over the years, and they aren't in my Contacts database as mobile phone numbers, and it's not trivial to correct them all. Also, in the UK at least, it's perfectly possible to send a SMS to a normal, landline phone - and sometimes its desirable where I work.

2) Can we have an option to just get rid of the formatting of the numbers completely, so that 07123 456789 appears as just that (possibly without the space, if its easier), and not with any forced brackets or anything. As it stands, the numbers just look wrong in the UK...
