Oh I meant the n800 acts as the transmitter (sending/broadcasting) and the receiver would be (TV, VCR, DVD).

I have a 3.5" IR blaster; are you saying there's software that will make my N800 drive it? I doubt it! The docs that came w/ my MS remote said that I had to put the blaster right beside the receiver because the range was so short...

Has anyone seen this?

http://ir2bt.com/

would this make the N800 OS2008 more friendly with the PS3? Could I finally see an app that would control my PS3?

thanks

hi all, i want to do something much simpler. I want to get this functionality without paying 24 bucks, and possibly without airtunes.

"Using Signal from the iPhone looks best and works really fast. You can tell that the web interface is made for the device. I don't have an iPod Touch, but I guess it is the same experience. So how does it look like on other devices with other browsers? Well, any request will bring up a virtual iPhone in your browser and then work just the same. Hence the remote control from any laptop works great, too. Good stuff! I also tested the access from a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet - which by default also goes to the virtual iPhone screen - and would require a bit of scrolling up and down. But then, even better, just by changing the URL from http://macmini:3569/iphone/phone.html to http://macmini:3569/iphone/ I was able to get the normal iPhone content full screen on the N800 - which works great, too." another post on http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33874

I just want to be able to be outside (or wherever) and use my n800 as a remote for my music. i want to see it all like i would see my computer, or as a mp3 player would display it. i dont want to vpn or rdesktop it, as without the n800 keyboard its a hassle to type in song names to add to a queue.

basically i want my n800 to be able to change what the computer upstairs is playing on the speakers...

I know that the new logitech squeezbox duet is based on linux, so if we could get something like that on the n800 that would be great.

Thanks

Depending on how fancy you want to get here, but if you're unwilling to spend 24 bucks, then I'm guessing that you'll be willing to settle for less than uber fancy ;o)

Anyways, just setup Music Player Daemon on your PC; then use any of the MPD clients (either a web interface or one of the ones written specifically for the N800/N810) to control it. Works like a charm, is very easy to do, and gives you lots of options for interfaces that are as complex or simple as you want them to be; I use this in my Jeep (I put an Asus WL-500GD wireless router with a few USB thumb drives in there, a USB sound card with builtin fm transmitter, and MPD running) and it works perfectly. I wasn't terribly impressed with any of the existing interfaces for the way I like to navigate/control my music (I'm one of those old school file/directory kind of guys), so I just built my own little flash interface that connects to the MPD socket to send commands and grab information; it's not very hard to do, but like I said if you're not comfortable with code then there are lots of premade solutions available as well.

Back on the main thread point here for a question though... there's been a bit of discussion here about using the headphone jack for an IR blaster, which would actually be pretty neat... here's my question though: If I were to create a "faux IR headset"... that is, an IR receiver connected to the microphone input and an IR transmitter connected to the speaker output, would there be a relatively simple way to build a plugin for Irreco that would allow you to do a "learning mode remote"? that is, open the plugin, hit "get code" and basically have it record the audio from the mic jack. You press a button on your existing remote while pointing it at the tablet, and the plugin says "OKay, got it" and saves it as a file identified by whichever button you want it to be. Then, you associate that file with a button on your Irreco interface so that whenever you press it it causes the tablet to "play" that file back in the background (that could be as easy as a call to mplayer or something right?).

Anyways, I'm willing to investigate and build the hardware (and put it up for sale along with the OTG adapters and other N800 accessories if it works) if there's some interest and somebody's willing to tackle (or at least help tackle) the software side of things...

Thanks,
-Rob

I'd buy Rob. Build it and they will come. Who out there can help Rob with software. Benson might.
