@Paai: Thanks, the test shows the workaround wouln't work. Your only option is to update the NX libraries and programs.

Locale problems won't affect the keyboard, those are probably harmless if your language is english, and if not, the only effect will be messages in english instead of your language.
I can confirm it works perfectly! Brilliant work thanks so much, maacruz!

(It seems an earlier answer disappeared)

I installed the last nx packages (3.4.0-14) from nomachine & booted the server again but no luck. nxclient works. I run Kubuntu 10.04 for i686 on the server.

@Tigerite:
Check if your keyboard modifications all work.
Also, try loading a non-latin keymap (russian or greek, for example), check if it works. Pressing Alt and then Ctrl+key should produce a latin character, pressing Alt and then Shift+Ctrl should switch the character set.

@Paai:
You could try installing the nx packages from Ubuntu 10.10, they are confirmed to work. Do it by hand using dpkg, if you try adding the repositories probably apt-get will want to upgrade everything.

Just for interest, Ubuntu 10.10 doesn't have nx packages per se. I followed the instructions here, for FreeNX:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FreeNX

I'll try out a non-latin keymap later on and see what happens. My keyboard mods do definitely work though, even tab and escape!

@maacruz: I get my binaries directly from nomachine.com. The packages are:

nxclient_3.4.0-7_x86_64.deb
nxnode_3.4.0-14_x86_64.deb
nxserver_3.4.0-14_x86_64.deb

If anyone has newer, or different packages I'd like to hear about it.

@tigerite... aha, so you use freenx, while I am using the original Nomachine NX...

Now I don't want to immediatly change from Nomachine NX to Freenx on my production machine, so I first must find a machine that I can install Freenx on... I will get back when I fixed that.

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier.. I don't really know why I plumped for FreeNX over the NoMachine NX version, other than the website that I linked to had easy-to-follow instructions and it just worked

Yes, well, things are changing.

I installed the lucid lynx freenx on a 10.04 machine, and now the N900 says "lusr/bin/snx Line 150: nxproxy not found" and continues with the wllknown "display not found" errors...

paai@paai:/Data/paai/Documents$ dpkg -l | grep nx
ii freenx 0.7.3.git100327.e224628-0~ppa7~lucid Remote desktop/application/thin-client serve
