I still don't get how, IF the application was GPL'ed, Matan's actions violate the GPL. The GPL insists that all software licensed under it, and all software developed from or based on the initial GPL'ed code, must be distributed with the same license, which gives an irrevocable right to obtain the source code, and modify and freely distribute the software, with or without modification, so long as you give the same rights and opportunity-to-acquire-source-code to everyone you distribute it to.

Which ultimately means that it's a question of how Matan acquired the source code. Honestly, the way I understand it, unless Matan acquired the code/binary (I don't know what he was distributing - the link was down by the time I saw this thread) in a way that was obviously illegal, the GPL's protections stand - or at least, it would be hard to challenge in court.

IF, of course, the StellariuMobile is a GPL'ed app - it could very well have had that left in accidentally, or something.

If the about box of Stellarium says it's GPL, then why the hell everyone here are discussing if it is shareable or not....guys please don't be stupid.

This software IS FREELY DISTRIBUTABLE TO EVERYONE...and with source code included because that is what Stellarium Mobile states in it's license.

I think this discussion is important, especially for developers.

For me as consumer: I just paid $2.99 and downloaded from Ovi store, and I am a happy camper! Great app!

I think that the only pirates here are the ones who are trying to deny the free (and i mean free as in freedom) distribution of this software (including Ovi Store for not offering the source), because they are clearly violating the Stellarium Mobile's license that states this:

"To protect your rights, we need to prevent others from denying you these rights or asking you to surrender the rights. Therefore, you have certain responsibilities if you distribute copies of the software, or if you modify it: responsibilities to respect the freedom of others.

For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must pass on to the recipients the same freedoms that you received. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.

Developers that use the GNU GPL protect your rights with two steps: (1) assert copyright on the software, and (2) offer you this License giving you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify it."

These two apps make my soul really happy.

PS1: kudos to Rob1n too for the port.
PS2: I dont mind nokia getting a euro if they gave him the prize money.
What the orrery author wants, instead of donations, is suggestions on how to improve the program. What features are not available in Stellarium or orrery that you'd like to see added?
