In one of the keynotes or the Q&A session i remember a speaker saying no MeeGo hardware at this conference but there will be at next and people will have them in there hands.
considering next conference is six months away that almost certainly guarantees there will be MeeGo devices before. I'm hoping for February from Nokia.

MWC is very high on the list of possible places to announce MeeGo device(s) by Nokia (14th of February)... or their own event next to MWC like last year.

Elop is one of the MWC keynote speakers, so Nokia is most likely part of the "official" MWC next year.

EDIT: Very much off-topic. Sorry.

Internet access is seriously sketchy here in the hotel and it's not much better in the conference. Finally have connection after it conked out about lunch time. It's like Bob Spencer from Intel said in his presentation earlier, around 3am there's plenty of bandwidth! Lo and behold it's 3.10am and Im back on.. the guy's right!

Today has been a good day. First of all, it's the reason we all go to conferences in the first place - plenty of free conference swag

The MeeGo cardboard handbag style case contained a notepad, maps, pass, conference tshirt (winner of the design a tshirt comp), and the all important infamous MeeGo umbrella There were also tidbits around the floor from a few companies, I got a Qt pen, some Panda Board stickers, and a usb coffee warmer. I don't even like coffee or tea.. just gotta get all that free conference junk whatever it is Hopefully tomorrow we'll all be picking up a new IdeaPad too (thanks Intel )

One of the interesting facets of being here is that you get to have a glimpse of what is happening behind the marketing message, and definitely alcohol mixed with employers and developers from different backgrounds can raise some interesting thoughts about how they view each other. Ofcourse developers like to have a 'feisty' discussion or two amongst themselves. The most popular topic in all this, no surprise, is our good friend Qt (parts of which has still to win everyone over). The current situation with web runtime is something a lot of people feel strongly about too. There's definitely a strong relationship between Intel and Nokia to see MeeGo a success but ofcourse it's business only. If one person is not convinced about Qt, another person may not be so convinced about Intel delivering in the mobile handset space. Some will not be convinced with either. The future will tell The news today that AMD have found the MeeGo project too interesting to ignore adds a bit of spice to that mix but can be only be good news for the MeeGo project and it's future

Coming into the conference with my Nokia fanboy hat on I was hoping for a surprise or two. That has yet to materialize. The Intel presenters on the other hand have impressed me - they have been engaging and they kinda "get it" as to what I want from a conference. We'll see what tomorrow brings, I still hope to leave with some Nokia memorable moment. In any case, I can't become a chip maker fanboy though, that's much too low level!

I should say that Nokia were excellent in regards to the early bird events, and Im very grateful for the learning opportunity and all the tips I picked up

As of tomorrow, I see some familiar topics and Maemo friends will be on stage, it's a lot more developer centric programme of sessions. Unfortunately that also means some clashes as i cant be in two places at once.

Oh and I met lcuk tonight, he's a very jovial fellow indeed!

So I just read this long and extremly negative article about MeeGo from a journalist who was at the Summit. Anybody from here who was at the conference, care to comment if the mood was really as Doom & Gloom as the article implies?

Nokia's MeeGo is doomed

"I talked to a lot of developers at the Summit. I drank heavily with a couple dozen of them. Inebriation breeds honest, if slightly incoherent, conversation. We talked about MeeGo and, nine times out of ten, the talk was negative."

Kinda. In the main, a lot of the folks I chatted to had complaints or fears about something or another - be it the tools from developers (ie Qt) or 'the fact that Android has basically already taken over the markets MeeGo is aiming at' from sellers and journalists. So there are a lot of people still to be convinced. But it's early days and the jury is still out on a lot of this stuff, but lots of new developments like the community OBS going live definitely raised spirits There's now something to develop for! And I should also say that a lot of the complainers still believed MeeGo was the right way forward and there are ofcourse those who are excited by it

I think there is still a place for MeeGo. I like the idea of a single stack across a range of devices, based on opensource - and I hope MeeGo will be the vehicle that takes us there.

Personally I still enjoyed a great conference cos ofcourse I was hanging out more with the happy clappy maemo bunch No doom and gloom for me, I learned a lot and met some good folks, I'm very grateful for Intel and Nokia for putting on the conference and giving me the opportunity to do so *thumbs up*

Speaking of which, this handy bump gives me an excuse to post some photos from the Guinness Storehouse party inc the U2 tribute band mentioned in the article..

The U2 tribute band "Rattle and Hum"

Maemo council members Tim (timsamoff) in the middle and Andrew (Jaffa) on the left, with Tatiana (maemo live wallpapers app) and Andrew (wazd) on the right.

Council member RevdKathy (without the bears) after refusing to dance with me to the traiditonal band, letting loose with some rock movements the Quo army would be proud of

I also grabbed snap of Ash from MeegoExperts.com in the crowd bopping along to a bit of tribute rock

If I got any of these names wrong please:
a. blame the Guinness
b. lemme know to update
