Guys there are many situations where the N900 does come out stong in certain cases.

Recently at office we were trying to get the live feeds of the Cricket world cup to play on some mobile device so we could watch it - guess what - a coleagues N900 (I had sold mine already) played it pretty well via Cricinfo life feed) while the iPhone 4 (plenty going around) just stuttered like mad and want watchable in any way.

So go figure .... no do I have to take a photo of such a situation and post it here. But pray tell me (and Gerbick) what I need to do to make it provable beyond doubt of it being shopped.

Ok, forget it we don't need any photos to prove a simple point. Sometimes a point is just that - a simple matter of fact point. It doesn't always need to be proven.

I'm not sure about useful, but I'm happy to see that Nokia had done SOMETHING right enough that this kind of opportunity could happen. It should happen MORE often, instead of less often as is usually the case. I'd rather see Nokia compete instead of flopping about uselessly as usual lately.

I'm curious to know what kind of stream was it that the iP* couldn't handle it. It boggles me. Is it just a problem with iOS in particular that pretty much everyone else COULD watch (i.e. could an Android or Maemo with Flash have watched it? or was it in some stream format like OGG that maybe the iOS device didn't know how to use, but ANYONE else could?). It is pretty funny but I'm technically curious now.

If I was posting this on The Register I'd include Paris, because she'd recognise a shop when she sees one too.

I agree, except that I don't have any sentimental attachment toward Nokia like you do.

Someone someday somehow would make device like N900. It means to exist.

Don't put all burden on Nokia, leave her alone.

It's something more than technical difficulty.

The reason why iOS or Android couldn't find an app in their appstore that could play more formats than they're supposed to be is the royalty and licensing issues with some codecs.

For example, mobile manufacturers must pay SUN the royalty for every devices sold that included SUN's JVM. That's why not all mobile devices could be able to run Java even it's technically feasible. Distribution of media codecs is even more legally complicated in this case, and the legality is varying for different regions.

Of course you'd then say Android could do the job with some hacking, but IMHO N900/Maemo can do better, and easier job in this case.

You may start the debate on abusing freedom on copyright, licensing and royalty, but I'm not going to argue as it's my believe that some of the legal issues are abusive on themselves.

I know you are well aware of above but for some reason they didn't come to your mind when you stated your arguement. So please regard it a friendly reminder for you. Hope no damage is done.

The title is wrong and misleading It took N900. Nokia has nothing to do with this

Hey dude the part that governs common sense in your brain seems to have broken.
