Now I publish all my power-kernel changes in git repo (based on garage power-kernel):
$ git clone http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~pali/kernel-power.git
If you want to see kernel output when booting, you need to modify preinit script (or add modprobe command to /boot.sh)

I'm preparing recorvery (emergency) shell console for bootmenu which will use framebuffer output. So recorevery console on n900 (without needing to connect n900 to computer). So I think this is what you want with framebuffer (then of corse you can see kernel output).

framebuffer kernel message output break bootmenu (output). So it is not staticly linked into kernel, but as external module (console programs, like which I'm prepairing for recorvery mode, can load this modules). But it is possible to load framebuffer modules at bootmenu exit.
And for dots I see on this. As I know dots are running before X server starts.
