That's until you discover that there's some secret piece of hardware/software combination that will force it into premature obsolescence like it happened will all previous, supposedly open, devices.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Fool me thrice, but at least don't make me pay for the vaseline.

not getting it!

what i like:

-pinch zoom, amoled, multitasking (except closing the apps), seems snappy, maps, better email client (everything is better then that of the n900)

deal breakers: no keyboard, still no flash (wtf??!), still no voice dialling recognition, no customizable homescreens, no widgets, no notification light

the risk of spending another deal of money for a plattform that will not be supported by the own company and wont be able to have the same amount of easy fixes from the community is far too daunting..

I'm not sure about what to do.

I use my N900(bought it second hand) at home(reading forums and doing IM on the couch) and a cheap ZTE Blade(600mhz/512mb) with Custom 2.2 Android when I'm out because it's slim, light and has better battery performance.

I was going to ditch the Blade for a Galaxy S2(great deal on hand, I'm not the guy to spend much money on a phone so this is an exception)..

The N9 would be a no-brainer if it would feature a qwerty keyboard. And while I'm quite a geek I don't mind the single core as long as the flow is good anyway, so the rest of the specs is ok for me(although this could change depending on the price tag, and I expect a huge one knowing Nokia).

I guess I will get a second hand N9 in 2012, but only for nostalgia. It's not like this phone will provide something special like the N900 does today with it's awesome keyboard.

And yeah, I'm quite the idealist and will not stop rooting for open source, but I'm not in a position to spend like 500 € or more on a phone just because it runs Linux and is unique. Granted, I would like to buy one just to make a point and get my family and friends to join the boat, but the Elop won't care anyway - so I stick with my N900+some Android device combo and will just ignore whatever symbian/wp7 products Nokia is going to release.

on a different note I just hope the company will get back on track somehow, not only because my job is tied to customers buying Nokia products but also because the company used to be great and shouldn't be ruined by the Elop

Do not want. Once I saw the N9 hardware I don't even care what the OS looks like. I am not interested in that kind of device at all. It's like Nokia's years-late response to the iPhone.

I'll buy the next Meego phone. If Nokia decides to back Meego they can have my money, otherwise I'd rather not spend it on a company which is on a dead end track.

Frankly, it's I think it's highly likely that both Meego and WP end up being only marginally relevant in the end. I really don't see WP catching on and without the required backing Meego won't go anywhere as well (in the smartphone market that is!).

I buy a Nokia device and not go into MS ecosystem.

Giving the finger to Elop... priceless.

True. I care less about Elop's satisfaction than about my own. Therefore I will buy an N900, because it represents something that I want. It is not a replacement for my N9, but it is probably something I can carry with me every day and enjoy using. As I've said on another thread, if I had the space and money I'd buy both a pickup truck and a sports car. I see N900 and N9 in much the same light.

...and it's still pretty open (UX complaints aside). I don't care about widgets (battery-draining waste of space in my experience) and the app home screen looks fairly customisable.

I'm probably not getting an N9 because:

1. IRC is a pain in the arse without hwkb and it makes for 50%+ of my mobile usage
2. From the looks it wont even officially come to my country
http://europe.nokia.com/find-product...-1todtmt773311

- I will buy an N950 if i get a chance.

You think this is an articulate comment?
