Thanks to your help I am now able to boot the framebuffer kernel image.
It does not show more info than other kernels for now in the bootmenu before it reboots. Do I need to put modprobe fbcon somewhere for that?

bootmenu got /usr/bin/evkey instead of /usr/sbin/evkey,
It is stuck in and endless loop with the LED red flashing .. and then rebooting .. and rebooting .. and rebooting etc.
What is the procedure to solve this?

For me, there was only one way:
1. Fleshing the Nokia's Firmware;
2. Installing Bootmenu (in those days an older version, today you can use the aktually one)
3. Installing Kernel
4. Flashing the Bootmenu Backup

Pali,
I have a seriously tweaked N900 with U-boot and bootmenu. I'm usually booting the PR1.3 kernel w/ builtin framebuffer and from there to Bootmenu 1.12, where I normally just boot Maemo5 in the normal way.
Now, every time (cannot be sure, but at least "many" times) after booting I see a core dump on /core.
I just happened to install gdb for unrelated reasons but I decided to run gdb --core=/core and I get:
I have minimal experience with gdb as well as with ARM code, so I'm not pursuing this further on the N900 side.
I also had a look at watchdogs.c and see nothing obviously broken. I have not enabled R&D (cal-tool -d says disabled)
Just wanted to let you know. If you have any idea what could be wrong please let me know.

@reinob: this is bad, program watchdogs crashing.
If you still can reproduce this bug (e.g crash core of program watchdogs) I can compile for you watchdogs with debug info. Then core will contains more info (not only <address> in ?? () but show also function and line where it crash). Write me email for more informations. (Note that until next monday I will be without internet connection, so wait...)
