On a related note Nokia did donate $50000 to the gnome foundation to work on the hildon stuff. Read this and this. It shows an example of what you get with that amount of money.

So if around 10% of Maemo members donated $10 in round one of funding that would raise $55000, which considering the amount of work GTK+ involved should buy quite a bit [from http://www.igalia.com
