Deep down you know you are wrong Mr Lumiaman.

I have explained all this, but screen is both subjective and objective. It's only objective to a point, from that point it becomes subjective. The N9 has a better screen that the N900, that is a fact. It does not have better resolution, but everything else is better.

The only facts here is that PenTile is worse, and that AMOLED provides for better contrast but worse indoor readability. So you cannot objectively say anything on whether the N9 screen is better than the N950/N900. You cannot say that AMOLED is better than LCD either -- even without PenTile--, because it has a few cons.

So it all goes down to opinion. E.g. whether you can notice the artifacts of PenTile, or value the increased contrast, or you plan to use the device outdoors.

I personally can't look at the Lumia800 screen without noticing the heavy checkerboard pattern everywhere. But I could get used to it.

That's not what I would call an opinion. That's more into the borderline psycho kind of stuff. That IS my opinion.

I'm more than happy with the N9 screen and, in my opinion, it exceeds that of the N900 and most other modern devices I've looked at.

I hadn't even noticed the fact that the pixels are noticable until now, but even so I'm glad Nokia went with PenTile technology: using Super AMOLED Plus (non PenTile) is a battery drain.
IIRC, Samsung used the newer of the technology on the S2, but switched back to PenTile on the S3 because of this issue.

Only niggle I have with the screen is touch: I much prefer resistive for many reasons, but more so I can make cool swirly-swirly movements with my fingers compared to the capacitive pinch and zoom.

RGB stripe is not newer technology. Go dig up a N85. It is not even for Samsung (i8910). The plus in the name is just a gimmick. And they can't do hd with stripe @4.8in that's why they chose pentile for the S3.

We've kinda had this thread already....
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=78488
Goes into all the detail one would need, & more.
I was supposed to get in touch with the Nokia display guru.
Mths went by and I still hadn't (too busy) figured it would be a futile exercise by that point.

Well, well. I got an N9. I had entirely forgotten about this thread right until I booted it and saw the "Set up time/date" prompt. Please remember that until now I had only seen that screen on a N950.

And OH GOD

The Lumia 800 _at least_ seemingly made an attempt to hide the PenTile checkerboard pattern by minimizing large white surfaces. The N9 doesn't seem to do so. It's a complete disaster and even on the Low-Power-Mode clock you can see it already. Apart from checkerboard there are also green/pink artifacts, but those were quite prevalent on the Lumia800 too.

I'm starting to understand why people are paying $2000 for N950....

Hoping I will eventually get used to it.
