LOL I dont really. But, as you said. To write CAL openmode wont work.
So, to test. I flashed closed, stock FW.
Anyways. chown root:root /dev/mtd1 solved that.

Now, "Service is under maintainance, try later" when I try to DL "DFL61_HARMATTAN_10.2011.34-1_PR_LEGACY_001-OEM1-958_ARM.bin"

You cannot downgrade CMT part of firmware. So if you flash older version of rootfs which is incompatible with new modem CMT part, it will just not work.

IIRC there is no exploit for downgrading CMT part of firmware... Also no way for N900!

This needs not only closed mode, but it has to be installed using elevated rights (what's the modern replacement for Inception? aegis-install as I recall). It should be installed with com.nokia.maemo origin.

Not exactly so, from what I see so far.
I did (with my cert in /root/cert.bin)
devel-su
develsh
chown root:root /dev/mtd1
cal-writer

And it did write the 'old' cert from cert.bin

then, of course, I did
chown cal:cal /dev/mtd1
to restore org permissions

Will try, if / when, Nokia servers allow download of FW again (says service under maintainance)
