BTW, my mentioning Android was not just a coincidence. We went on holiday last year with another family and to save time later, I wanted to use my Android tablet to copy pictures from one camera to the other. So I took the memory card from my camera, put it in a USB card reader and plugged it in the tablet. The tablet said, "Initializing memory card", and after that, all my pictures were gone. When the first panic subsided, I found them all in the FOUND folder like in yur case. All I had to do was rename *.CHK to *.JPG. I went one step further and renamed FILExxxx.CHK to DSCNyyyy.JPG but that's only because I am such a pedant.
