ok just gave him that kexec -e but it looks as if it has just turned off

i get "Memory for crashkernel is not reserved. Please reserve memory by parsing "crashkernel=X@Y" parameter to the kernel. Then try loading kdump kernel"

don't know what to do now with that X@Y

so nothing to do about that?

edit:

i get the message with no memory reserved in the terminal. it doesn't power off.

Just tried.
No messages after kexec -l.
Just freeze after kexec -e...
