Playstore is surely useful for those who rely on Android heavily. I still didn't get, why Jolla couldn't at least ask Google about making it officially. Is there some internal tension inherited from Nokia days? Or Google is too strict with requirements for official deployment?

If you have been reading around, Google are using Play as their way of closing things up so if you want Play and related services you would need to be a signatory of Open Handset Alliance which would prohibit Jolla from using any OS other than Google's Android...

Right so. I have no trouble with mail on my N9, reading 2 Exchange accounts, 1 GMail, 2 IMAP. OK, there is no copy/paste from e-mails received. Hope Jolla solved that and copied the approach on Accounts, which enables me to switch off mail sync for some accounts while in holiday.

(Lumiaman, what are you looking for? You don't seem to find much happiness here. Must be terrible to be drawn in here time and time again.)

It might have been a strategic decision. They want to offer an option for the operators to implement their own stores (both sailfish and android), and they might have wanted to encourage third parties to do native sailfish applications.

Well yeah maybe at least asking them would have not hurt, but Google wants it all. There was example talk about when Nokia joined WP, that one of the reasons they did not join Android was that Nokia could not make Nokia Maps default on their phones. Or think about Kindle and how that isn't licensed by Google.

What do you think Google would think about Jolla's own OS and it not using Google maps?
Personally I don't need or want any Google services to my Jolla, so I'm fine.

I already linked to that post in my last post, but I focused on the comments.
One can just scroll up from the comments to see what you've posted...

Yeah that's well known, but in one of his recent interviews Stefano(?) intimated that they didn't even "try" to have discussions with them.
They just ruled-it-out automatically, that seems wildly irresponsible to me...

Thank god they didn't. Look what happened to acer. If I wanted google controlling my phone I'd buy android (where I incidentally have more choice and better specs).
