I have one problem with the current build: When I want to browse a specific path in the N900 client it says "No results" but I can browse the same path at the localhost address in the browser and find files there.
I can also find those files in the N900 client when I use the search function.
How can I also use the path feature?

Do some of the paths have non-ascii letters? This could make it fail on Windows until newer Ruby is released. Also if it takes too long to list them, http connection may timeout. You can try increasing the timeout from xterminal:

Code:
gconftool-2 -s /apps/knots/default_timeout 60 -t string
I should probably optimize it a little, but it's a server side issue.

I have tried to install the 1.9.1 binaries for Windows to solve that problem but then I get

Code:
C:/Program Files (x86)/Knots/lib/db.rb:3:in `require': no such file to load -- s
qlite3 (LoadError)
        from C:/Program Files (x86)/Knots/lib/db.rb:3:in `<top (required)>'
        from knots.rb:74:in `require'
        from knots.rb:74:in `load_libs'
        from knots.rb:13:in `initialize'
        from knots.rb:382:in `new'
        from knots.rb:382:in `<main>'
in the command prompt. Could you solve that problem without breaking compatibility with Ruby 1.8.6?

I hit the thanks on the first post but that doesn't do it justice. After unsuccessfully trying to get both mediaserv & mediatomb working for my N900, Knots JUST WORKS. THANKS A BUNCH FOR THIS GREAT APP.

Ruby 1.9.1 doesn't help, 1.9.2 will bring filesystem charset fixes, but it's really a mess in general and not sure it helps either

Knots should scan media that has non-utf-8 characters (they look messy in browser which expects everything to be utf-8), but VLC doesn't find such files when I provide the path via telnet. I need to check if this can be fixed somehow.

This may be the reason why browse by path fails, xml parser can't parse the file list, because client xml parser says it's not proper utf-8 when ruby says it is.

I changed the way browse by path works now (in git), but I doubt it helps with these problems. If you run knots2 from terminal, you can see what file is the culprit from the error message.

Is there a way to allow my default firewall setting under Windows XP to make an exception for Knots?

I'm not seeing any option for this.

The firewall looks like it can only be either enabled or disabled.

So yeah, I've always left it as disabled.

Personally I think that the internet is just a daily, turd depository so I rarely go to any places while online.

So if it's not possible, I should be okay.

You could just get a proper firewall. There's plenty of free ones out there now - have a look at http://www.firewallguide.com/freeware.htm
