right !
now GPLed components are w4r3z !
neopwn simply build upon GPLed components , and just doesn't share the source .
first the beta went private , which is fine ,I don't mind if he wants to get paid, but even people who paid didn't get the source of the binaries , and there is no where mentioned to get them .
this is required by the GPL license , If you distribute GPLed binaries , you have to accompany them with the source , or mention where to get the source .
If he wants to maintain a profit , fine , don't make the source publicly available , but people who paid you for the beta , and got the binaries from you , have the legal right to get the source code too.

If someone is doing something wrong here it's neopwn crew, and should be reported to FSF .

here :
Telephone: +1-617-542-5942
Fax: +1-617-542-2652

and http://www.fsf.org/about/contact/email , select gpl compliance lab ..

if many people complain , they may do something !

On the one hand, I would really like it if people didn't pirate the current neopwn, for obvious reasons (having the source is much better, namely for the injection driver), and we're more likely to get it if the current beta isn't flying around pirated. I would also not like to screw with the guy who made neopwn - not because of any fear of reprisal, but because for all that we might disagree with him, he's still a person who obviously cares about the project in his own, sorta-Steve-Jobsian way. He has feelings too. So I'd rather given him the chance to open source stuff on his own time, instead of trying to bring a legal hammer on him. But at the same time, if months - a year passes and there's no word on a release...

Speaking of which, now that UBoot (and back when bootmenu/multiboot came out), doesn't that solve his main problem of having a user-friendly, safe way of installing the thing? Is there any real roadblocks, or is it just about the money for the costs incurred commissioning the making of the driver now?

Having the source or at least a new kernel+modules with pr13 patches would be cool.

I may seem evil , but I would like to see this in court soon , and not wait for a year, specially after he removed the "public beta coming soon" from his website , and by public beta I assume the source code would have accompanied the release , public binary distribution without source is even worse .

if you bought the private beta from neopwn and didn't get the source , please report this to the fsf .

I can see why people are getting really annoyed/frustated with this project... i been for a while thinking to myself this project has had the opposite effect which was mean to (I wish my thinking was different as this guy looks as if he is working extremely hard to get this project finished and the tools ported)... in fact I'm quite sure many here would have helped ported some of the individuals tools/components.... similar to ongoing nitdroid project where a hand full of people with right skills/knowledge are helping with the project by braking down what truly is a complex project into small manageable tasks... similar to these:

I'm sure, even I could help, even if at least by reporting bugs...

On a side note, is it fine to use with PR1.3?

Should be. As I understand it, NeoPwn runs either as a chroot or an entirely seperate OS - I suspect chroot because the dualbooting methods weren't around when the beta came out.

The only thing I can imagine is if you're taking some of the modules included in NeoPwn2, copying them to the normal N900 OS, and loading them in the main OS. But I'm pretty sure the only thing you'd use for that would be the wifi driver - and I haven't heard anyone saying that was touched in the PR1.3 update.

Anyway, if I understand chroots, it should all still be fine. I think we would have seen more complaints/comments in this thread if the NeoPwn2 didn't run at all on the N900 after this update.

The only thing is NeoPwn uses an older build of the kernel (or at least when the beta came out it was older - I don't know if NeoPwn's been secretely updating the beta since PR1.3 came out). So when you run NeoPwn you wouldn't have the updates that PR1.3 brought with it effecting the inside-the-chroot stuff - as I understand it. I'm not an expert, so this is more or less an educated guess.

So, guys... how can I get ahold of this? I don't want to go the illegal route, as in the leaked version, but it says on the homepage that you can no longer purchase it in the shop. I've heard that there will be NO public release, ever - is this true?

I'm willing to cash out and support the project to get this, but there seems to be little information.
