Go with the 32bit XP Pro, that's what I used for the last update. Install Maemo flasher, download your update (and the vanilla eMMC flash file if you want to flash that whilst you're at it), to ProgramFiles\maemo\flasher-3.5\ and follow the steps here:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware

Make sure when you type the command:

flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R

you use the EXACT filename for the file you put in ProgramFiles\maemo\flasher-3.5\

EDIT: If you flash the eMMC too you will lose EVERYTHING, so back up externally! (^_^)

You can. I just checked and it works like a charm. Just like everything else that has been changed in this update.

It seems clear that there are some issues with OTA downloads etc and that not everyone is able to receive them.

For god's sake people - It seems very likely that the nokia updater will be working from tomorrow. Stop winging on about how it isn't working today. As far as I can tell there was no official announcement that you would be able to use it today so there you go.

The word was it would be available this week. It has apparently been released for some customers in the UK and it has been added to the list of software for the N900 it it's various forms (Global, Indian etc etc)

If you are not able to update your phone OTA or via the Updater then you will have to wait one or two more days in order to do. The way people go from singing Nokia's praises to mindlessly berating them is mind blowing.

So either get the knowledge and the nuts up to flash the Global version and be bloody patient with it, or shut up and wait. You have waited long enough so two more days isn't going to kill you.

If you have broken your USB port or screwed your phone by balling up a needless eMMC flash it is your fault and no one else's. Especially not Nokia's or anyone on this site.

Sorry if this is old or if someone posted it already but I couldn't find any other topics like this. So here ya go!

Attention Nokia N900 owners: there’s a new software update coming your way this week (UK release today, and global release tomorrow Wednesday, May 26). Version 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) comes offering a range of enhancements to the already bursting Maemo5 mobile computer. Join us after the jump to find out what’s in store.

First up – new games join the veritable arcade already on offer in Ovi Store. Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget are all available to keep you entertained. Important to note though that Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.

Next are the improvements to communication. Email has been improved with the ability to accept or decline an event invitation right there in your inbox, and Facebook IM chat has also been bundled in. The release also brings with it video calling, allowing users face-to-face chatting anywhere.

An additional update you will be pleased to hear about is portrait browsing on the internet is a-go on the N900. Ovi Maps also gets the update treatment with changes to the UI, improving the experience of finding your way around. And finally, there’s also a change to the menu system UI with the first level now customisable.

Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready. Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. The reason? It’s really about ensuring that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device. Nokia realises this news may be a disappointment for some, rest assured that Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo software on your Nokia N900, as evidenced by the PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) update available today.
