"FINNISH PHONE FIRM Nokia has responded to claims that it has sold less than 100,000 N900 smartphones, telling The INQUIRER that the number is much higher than previously reported.

According to an earlier Reuters report based on Gartner figures, Nokia only managed to sell less than 100,000 top-of-the-range N900 smartphones in its first five months on the market.

However, Nokia has since told The INQUIRER that the original figure quoted by Reuters was incorrect, and that it actually sold more than 100,000 Nokia N900s in the first five weeks.

I think this is all just a big setup by Elop for tomorrow's event.


Elop will get up on stage, then a brilliant pyrotechnic will engulf him in flame effect and he'll jump toward the crowd and crowdsurf his way toward Steve Ballmer.... which is waiting at the back of the auditorium to hand him a golden N9..... running WP7.

In fairness.. if sales of the N900 were that poor.. no wonder they are so slow to bring out firmware updates.

• Microsoft will continue to invest in the development of Windows Phone and cloud services so customers can do more with their phone, across their work and personal lives.

• Nokia’s content and application store will be integrated with Microsoft Marketplace for a more compelling consumer experience.
