"To update your device to this version of the operating system you must use the Nokia software update application on your PC. Connect the device to your PC via a USB cable and launch the application."

There's been no message about not having enough space.

I guess it's time to trash more apps. Thing is, some of them were a b*tch to install and get working properly (Debian w/Cups, etc.) for me (noob). This is my main reason for not wanting to go the NSU route.

Any advice appreciated. I'm tired of spending so much time on this. I know the risks about installing from the Extras catalog, blah, blah. Frustrated.
Have now removed 27 apps with 56.8Mb on rootfs free. Still requiring update via PC. Ugh.

The "update via PC" notification is not related to rootfs free space, it's because you have an incompatible app installed that's blocking a direct update of some or multiple portions of the OTA upgrade.

i have a feeling that it depends on what manual upgrades people have done in the past too - havn't read the whole changelog but i've updated qt/python etc myself recently - so may be a smaller upgrade? (Not sure if it is that clever?)

Could also be battery % - it does like a good 70% for an OTA update....

Is it possible because there's a library discrepancy or conflict with one on your n900 and the one in the installation package or another reason not related to the memory size? Uninstalling to reinstall all those apps seems like a lot of work, is there a particular reason why you cannot just update via PC per the message?

N900 and other Maemo Devices are not idiot proof, nor are they meant to be. They give us the power to change what we want, therefore they assume if we change something, we should be able to fix it.

p.s. N900 is a 256Gb phone. :P Yeah, I went there.

I dont even bother replying anymore. But I am so kind that I give you one tip: app manager reports how much it must download stuff, not how much is needed after unpacking&while configuring&reflashing device (yes, the installer also reflashes stuff but keeps user data etc)

ps I am not cool, I am pissed. thread is full of stupid comments from stupid people who have been warned about installing stuff from extras-*. and disclaimer: people are stupid only because they post stupid questions here and dont bother reading two pages back (because of other stupid peoples stupid posts)
I don't think you are well suited to what you are trying to do.
