What people don't seem to realise is that it is possible to zoom out and see the whole catapult to target picture on the screen without all that scrolling side to side.

That works pretty well on my 5" Streak but of course will be better on 7".

It would be pants on the 3.5" iPhone by comparison.

Much as I have been lusting for the Tab and following this thread, it seems practical reasons have thrown a spanner in my plan. I changed my plans and am going for a Android phone - considering I wanted to get a taste of Android - and the N900 with Tmobile service wasn't working for me. It's not the N900 but the crappy Tmobile service which made me take a leap to Sprint service - and thus a HTC Evo 4G. Loving the large 4.3 " screen and Android hasn't been bad so far for me (though desperately miss the malt-task view of Maemo.

So since my phone is an Android one, maybe I will wait for a Meego Tablet - as I don't want to miss out on the Meego action.
Kind of sad that I have to forgo 2 devices I was looking forward to - the Meego N9 and the Galaxy Tab.
Made me realize that a good phone with a bad service makes for a bad combination.

But hey maybe I can still spring for a wifi tab if only...

Now I asked too much to the Pad... connected an usb stick through a female-to-female usb adaptor. No magic here, it didn't turn on its led and wasn't readable.
So no otg out-of-the-box, at least without any external software.

The first thing to install on your Pad is Firefox, no doubt.
The browsing experience with the current beta 4 is on par with Microb, and even better due to the large screen.
It will change the user agent with no effort and show sites like the real thing.
It's very, very enjoyable B-)

Carrypad have had some serious time with the Tab. They warn that it is very slippery and can easily be dropped. Check out carrypad.com for more info.

Here is their video of angry birds on the tab. The sound quality seems pretty amazing.

This is a great recommendation. How smooth is the scrolling for FF on the Tab?

I hope you also get a chance to install Opera Mobile for Android when it's released so that you can comment on the GPU acceleration and ultra-smooth scrolling/panning/zooming.

Ah! Sorry to hear that bud. Hopefully you didn't buy the EVO because of impatience! But I'm glad that you seem to be enjoying it as it's supposed to be quite a great handset.

Meego should have a solid tablet offering and should be released sometime soon, so you'll have to let us know about it when the time comes!

Yeah, they've mentioned that before as well. I suppose we'll have to take extra care when gripping the device by its screen.

I've also heard the that Tab has wonderful sound quality via the speakers. If the hardware is anything like the Galaxy S, then the headphone quality should be quite amazing as well!

As regards scrolling, FF is as fast as the stock browser. When pinch-zooming, it takes a little bit more, but then the chars are much nicer. FF is a beta, but it's already my browser of choice on the Tab. Unfortunately no flash yet, or I wasn't able to find the way to install it.

I tried also Opera mobile - not the GPU accellerated version - but in my hands it doesn't give anything more than the stock browser, which is already quick enough on a 3g connection. And - Opera mobile didn't allow me to change the user agent the way I can get free online newspapers . FF instead has an add-on which allows changing the user agent to that of a desktop machine.

One of the not often mentioned features of the Tab is that it ships with Thinkfree Office, for document viewing/editing on the go.


With a 1024x768 screen, office productivity should be VERY easy to accomplish on-the-go with outstanding battery life.

For may business professionals, writers, or students, this means that you can leave the heavy laptop/charger at home and enjoy simple productivity with on a small portable that easily fits into a small bag.

It even supports presentations, which is great considering that the tab can be easily connected to a portable projector, or handed to an associate for inspection.
