I have not seen a single advertisiment for Lumia 900. Walked by ATT store here in Pittsburgh, and no sight of Lumia. The only sighting was Samsung Note, iphones and ipads.........

Nokia will not return to MeeGo even if N9 turns out to be a hit, says Stephen Elop

http://blog.gsmarena.com/nokia-will-...-stephen-elop/

From the article:
"In an interview with Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop confirmed that even if the N9 proves to be a massive success, there is no returning to MeeGo for Nokia. Nokia instead will be betting everything on Windows Phone 7 platform and Elop is confident that it will be well received."

OK.. now your reply to that?
Quite likely ill never return to MeeGo but MeeGo project has been abandoned for something else, so lets see if Nokia brings in that something else as its OS.

Why pay $100? It's almost nothing.

Break it...
The deal you make is to pay $100... for a 2-year service contract. So yeah--go ahead and pay the $100 but you're stuck for TWO YEARS with what is already a pretty low-specifications device that might not even be able to run Windows Phone 8 (it hasn't been communicated that it can).

Also...

I think you overlooked that final sentence: "Nokia instead will be betting everything on Windows Phone 7 platform and Elop is confident that it will be well received."

They're not interested in your hopes and interests.. Elop has gone all-in betting on a losing nag that already has an obvious bloody cough.

I don't understand the US carrier system but over here the Lumia 900 is not that competitively priced at all.

Lumia 900: £480
iPhone 4: £460

Which do they think most people will buy? I think even the most informed tech enthusiast will choose the iPhone 4.
My guess is that Nokia know that they cannot compete with other phones at this stage. They know the people buying their phones are mainly the people specifically looking for a Nokia or Windows Phone. Right now Nokia/MS are milking the brand loyalists for higher margins to make up for the lower numbers. Make no mistake the lumia 900 is a 2010 phone and I'm not saying that as an exaggeration or internet meme it literately is a phone with almost all its parts from 2010. This phone could have released back then. Snapdragon S2, Adreno 205 in 2012 is unheard of. Yet its pricing is higher than the higher spec iPhone 4, which some consider itself already overpriced.

Thankfully, there's still hope:

Connection issues reported on some Nokia Lumia 900 smartphones

To say the hopes pinned to the Nokia Lumia 900 are high would be an understatement. AT&T is relying on the Lumia 900 selling well to help offset some of the profits it has lost since the iPhone went to wide availability on other networks. Microsoft is counting on the device to help increase the popularity of its Windows Phone operating system. At the same time, Nokia is praying* that the phone will be popular and help it big out of the smartphone slump it’s been in for years.

Unfortunately, it looks like a significant issue has arisen for some Lumia 900 owners that could mean disaster for the three companies counting on a sales success with the device. Apparently, many of the AT&T buyers of the Lumia 900 that ordered the device in advance already have the phone in hand. Some of those pre-ordered units have an issue that prevents them from connecting to a data network. This connectivity issue reportedly prevents the devices from accessing any data network via 2G, 3G, or AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

Phone Arena cites a source within AT&T that claims that the Lumia 900 has a defect in the process used to register the IMEI to data networks. Apparently, both AT&T and Nokia have already been removing affected phones from stock. Apparently, the phones work without issue to connect to data networks on the first boot, but stop working after the device is rebooted, restarted, or placed in airplane mode. There have been some workarounds offered, but some users complained that the problem will reappear. The solution includes things such as removing the SIM card and leaving the card out while performing a master reset and then booting without the SIM card.
