Have you all tried simply disabling the extras-testing and extras-devel repositories?

Disable extras-devel and extras-testing and, from X Terminal run (as root):
Code:
apt-get remove libqt4-phonon
That seems to have helped several people get the update installing.

The other thing to try is running (as root) from X Terminal:
Code:
apt-get remove libqt4-phonon

It should just pick up from where it left off - it's downloading a lot of individual files, not one huge one.

It sounds like it would be best for you to use App. manager to perform the upgrade. If you insist on using command line tools, you must do the following (specifically in this order):

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade

Despite my warning below, it is very likely you must 'apt-get dist-upgrade' in the case of a Maemo upgrade, because if any new packages are pulled in as dependencies it will not install at all.

(WARNING: You must use caution when performing an 'apt-get dist-upgrade', as it can be possible to brick your device if you allow it to perform actions which compromise the integrity of the system. Only use this function if you know exactly what you are doing!)

Backup won't work through PC Suite (I think this is fixed in the new firmware though) anyway - you should be able to backup on the phone itself though. The suggestions given on the linked thread should enable you to update OTA afterwards.

The thread "help! i can't update my n900 and i don't get it why..." with five posts has been merged into this thread.

The thread "n900 update 1.203.2" with three posts has been merged into this thread.
