Running knots2 via terminal doesn't seem to yield any errors, stuff just runs as normal, folders still having the same issue

What does the "buffer in seconds" option do on the server side?

As far as I can tell, it doesn't do much of anything.

Anyway, I was wondering if it's at all possible to buffer an entire 25 minute show (kind of like how youtube does it thing when loading a video) while using the highest optimal settings as well.

I found that the N800 can pretty much handle a 640x360 screen display.

Test video on this for you to check out on your old N810.

I understand that there might even be a 25 minute or longer wait before the video actually fires by doing this but the additional resolution would be worth it.

Cheers bud!
Try the client from-devel, it may buffer. Doubt it helps too much, if you want better quality, just use some converter and transfer them to device.

There comes a time when we accept the fact that our beloved n8x0s can't do wonders, no matter what we do. If they did, Knots wouldn't exist.

Sounds good enough to me.

Thanks!

It's not Knots, it's your vlc+ffmpeg combo. Make sure you install all the necessary unrestricted codecs for ffmpeg. You can try running the ./scripts/vlctest /path/to/video and see if you can spot any error messages from the quite verbose output. But I'm quite sure you are just missing some extra ffmpeg packages, ffmpeg alone isn't enough on ubuntu.

hey ukki, i'm experiencing exact the same problems und suse 11.1! (black screen on video stream also when i choose the "passthrough" profile, even on my laptops browser)

i looked in suse's yast for ffmpeg, everything seems to be installed correctely. i did'n get that line :"./scripts/vlctest /path/to/video " as there is no ./scripts directory in root.
any ideas how to solve this problem?

thx!

sigh, so now Knots2 has stopped working for me again after updating (both server and client).
Using the N900, all I get is the yellow hildon banner where it's trying to connect to the server and then just the hildon progress indicator animating and a black screen. Thats it.

Same thing using any browser. There I can login alright, but when playing a tune the orange progress is moving but no audio.
What could be wrong this time?
This vexes me, because I miss my favourite N900 app. at work!

EDIT: Also, This is nothing new (got it when it worked too), but I always get the message 'ERROR Basic Knots: no credentials in the request.' for some reason.

Are you telling me you only updated Knots and nothings works now? I have no issues with 0.3 client from -devel and latest git on my Sheevaplug using Ubuntu Jaunty or on my OS X. Did you run the ./scripts/migrate after updating server? Did you try with a clean database just in case? Have you updated anything related to VLC or ffmpeg? If the client in -devel gives you problems, try using the one in -extras.

I think I'm pretty much done with features and I've been trying to iron out the most serious issues from Knots and hopefully it will work good enough for a while now, because I probably won't be working on it (for few months at least).

And yeah, that "no credentials" message is harmless.

And if people have video/audio missing after upgrading their servers, there's not much I can do. Knots should work if your VLC works, but most distributions ship a broken/crippled ffmpeg and it goes beyond my duties to fix that. I know it's frustrating to fix/compile them, but that's the price you have to pay for seeking.

Now I'm getting the same symptom. Tried connecting manually via 3g with auth, worked fine. Then closed 3g and opened wifi - fired up the knots client again and now it just hangs as Larswad described.

So this happens with the 0.3 client from -devel? Does
Code:
gconftool-2 -u /apps/knots/last_server
fix it? I'll try to fix that tomorrow.
