Sorry about that. I wanted to avoid installing ftp on that server. I do have a web server running, so I could have just posted a link , but I'd rather keep this separate from my web server.

If anyone can recommend a free upload site the use of which does not make me be or look like a criminal, feel free to post about it (or PM if considered off-topic).

No worries reinob.
I was expecting alot of standard tried-and-true programs.
In the end what worked easily and fluidly was Bareftp.
I only have the greatest of respect for it now.
very impressed...going to make it my new no.1...

Yeah...hear you loud and clear on the "where" to put it up.
...The only souls who need or want (for that matter) these files have to be pretty quick on the uptake ...and that pretty much is only just us bunch.

I think it boils down to liability for our home here and them putting questionable proprietary goods up. It may be frowned on..but the wayback has our accessible files (for the most part) .
I think it is about being wise enough not to make a big show of it and irritate those with the clout.
It isn't like we are distributing anything to make a dollar or subvert or undermine anyone or anything.
It may draw frowns...possibly....
but the reality is...
1- we are simply trying to maintain on our own ...our devices, platforms and software from eroding away from underneath us from lack of said maintenance ...
2- we are trying to make software development ((for an abandoned and (considered by the rest of the world as an) obsolete device line and platforms)) as up to date, problem-free and easy for new and old members alike to work with.
3- yes it is possible we could incur the wrath on some entity and lawyers come swooping in with orders to cease and desist. A long time gone now I believed that possible.....perhaps it still is...but I do have my doubts as to the sanity of such a move. for it would make whosoever did issue such cease and desist orders look very very very badly in the public light ...and bad press is not something any big organization wishes. Especially a giant beating up a small community of (mostly) harmless gadgeteers like us. And of course such news would circulate like wildfire...very quickly. It would definitely make for good press for us, public sympathy, increased registration most likely ...as well as other benefits. We aren't really a smart choice to take on... and expect that it wouldn't misfire...in some way negatively for that entity.
We have no offshore accounts full of plunder to take...
We have no incredible applications that can cure cancer, overthrow 3rd world dictatorships with or have created something coveted by some octocore smartphone designer or exec. for apple or google (none of those yet anyway) ...we just like to fiddle with our favourite devices.
Naw ..if anything we should get corporate and government funding for what we are doing
In fact... concerning ...http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=95438
I think we shouldn't be asking our new step-dad (Microsoft) just for the keys to the car (releasing the goods) but as well we should ask for an allowance

All fun aside ...
and all justification of stance and nobility of cause...
All that being said...I don't believe in tempting fate or providence by putting up billboards of our successes...and shooting off fireworks in celebrations...
(At least until proprietary issues are resolved (if ever) ...that is..)
Until that day of glorious salvation ...I think being a (relatively) quiet ...wee small mouse in the granary is a good idea Reinob.

That was originally my idea when I setup the restricted sftp-only access. A link (e.g. dropbox, megawhatever, etc.) can be distributed "too" easily.

Here, if I want to stop distribution I just e.g. delete the file or change the password, etc.

The only issue may be resuming a stopped download (which can happen if the connection is slow. My VPS bandwidth can vary from 64kbps to 10+ Mbps). With the standard sftp client you can use "get -a file.ext" to resume downloading.

Ok...before I run out the door...
I was up most of last night and managed to get the new antiX 15 jessie beta running smooth (boy I like it alot...I had to jimmy things a bit...but 'sall good now) with the qtsdk goods.
So far all they have is 32bit ...64 will be coming soon I'm sure.
Looking forward to seeing full sdk on these live distros.
Ok gotta go...or the lady is gonna kill me

I am uncertain of what you mean by this. Although I have found a torrent file of a 7zip compressed Maemo SDK vmware image featuring Ubuntu Precise desktop. It has very few seeders which are not online 24/7. If I managed to acquire this image by means of 24/7 leeching I would definitely provide a dropbox link for convenience.

PS: Do not get your hopes up, this is most likely just a mirage and the torrent could be good as dead.

Reinob..thanks again....unfortunately german keyboard settings didn't work well for me...at the beginning...couldn't get past "apt..." I couldn't type "-" ! hahahahaha
Sooooo....I ended up doing scratch FROM scratch...
and ooooh i so hate scratch.
got it done
aaannnnddd nope.
It won't work.
No hope this route.
programs such as qtsdk are one thing...fact ...could pack up a bzillion programs and convert the whole she-bang ...operating system and all to a live bootable iso to burn to whatever...
But virtualbox is more complex....it's like stuffing a mouse inside a chinchilla into a usb and expecting it still to be "live" hahaahaaha.
Hm...reminds me of Turduckin ...turkey stuffed with a duck which was stuffed with a chicken....tried it...I didn't see the allure...I thought it a waste of all three tasty birds...anyway back to topic...
Hmm. only other thing I can think is literally to clone the system to iso...and there is no guarantee then either...It may or may not work.
Building a distributable from scratch would probably have better results....

So far the success is in programs...not the insane complexity of cramming virtual environments and the operating system as well onto a much smaller space and expecting it to run...

Lubuntu, LMDE2Betsy and antix 15 beta work with qtsdk installed and turned into a live iso ...so that's not so bad...
I would like to get more variety and for the other devices as well
I'm just going to have to spend more time mulling over this....

Are you sure it's precise?
There's a well known, Nokia-provided, Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04 LTS) virtual image.

I also have it with me. I bet most active users here have it as well.

Wow sorry about that. Why didn't you just ssh into the VM?
(ssh root@localhost -p 4444) will get you in (you can change the network settings in virtualbox to choose a different port).

This way you should be able to work with your usual keyboard settings, etc. (and without the messy Virtualbox window).
