Arg... that IS a very real (potential) problem...

I've increased the strength of my micro-USB socket soaking it in gel epoxy. It's far more tightly fitted now and the glue around it is barely noticeable, but it looks as if I could hang on it without breaking. As a bonus, edges between the cover plastic and the port are somewhat smoother now so it has become far easier to insert the micro-USB cable...

My big concern now is that Titan can't replicate MohammadAG's results.

Has anyone else managed to get this working yet?

Yes, indeed. I'm temped to disassemble my N900 and glue the damn port to the PCB in a way it never ever gets off until it's falling to dust.

For the "what can we do with USB hostmode?" (it is NOT OTG! hostmode is much simpler ): The N900 can supply only 200mA of VBUS power, which will suffice for keyborad, mouse, memstick, but most likely not for 3G-UMTS-dongles, quite a number of WLAN adapters and usb-ethernet bridges, etc. For all those devices, and also for the convenience of working stationary with e.g. a kbd without draining battery, I plan to have a mode where you use a quite usual Y-cable (the kind that comes with your huge USB-HDD) and plug the 3rd plug into a common USB wallwart charger, to supply peripheral and N900 with power while in hostmode.

but for now please stay patient, it's not yet stable and needs some major cleanups. You'll survive without it for another week ;-P

cheers
jOERG

It could've been the timing (joerg_rw knows more about these timeouts).
Anyways he's backing up and flashing the kernel to test.

Judging by this video (attached screen cap) it would be possible to mount a USB female connector inside the N900.

I have one which is pretty small (attached pic), do you guys think it would fit? I don't mind sacrificing one speaker.

LE: Actually you don't need all that metal for a tight fix, I stripped down a usb connector from an older motherboard and this is what I came up with (compared is a normal female connector):

I tried multiple usb-b devices and they all get a nice grip. This could defo be inside my N900. Sadly, this little fella lost a leg, but his brothers are just fine.

LE2: I'm not sure, but it may fit in place of original the micro-usb.

You know the Nokia most awesome APP competition with $50000 prize ?

I think its this one ?
http://www.callingallinnovators.com/images/home.jpg

THIS IS IT if this gets to a stage where it has good compatibility. It would be a travesty if this did not win ! You guys on the project need to share the prize !

I am negative on n900 somewhat, but this stuff is the stuff of legend - the possibilities are mind bending due to the no. of USB PC periperals.

Again, PLEASE formally enter this for hte Nokia app prize. Even as a alpha Proof of Concept !

If some stupid cheesy app wins instead of this, then Nokia is WELL AND TRULY STUPID.
