Anidel do you think it's possible to add a "text" button in the toolbar? It is a very useful instrument for annotating pdf files and having it promptly available would be nice.

Hi anidel,
My installation appears to fail with the error "Unble to install xournal".

However Xournal appears in the Extras list of apps. Tapping on it gives "Xournal loading" but it doesn't run.

Running xournal from terminal produces the message as before described by zeez and pablo, namely: -

xournal: GLIB WARNING ** Gtk - gtk_menu_attach_to_widget(): menu already attached to GtkImageMenuItem
xournal: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgnomecanvas-2.so.0: undefined symbol: art_alloc
I have just reflashed my device so everything on it is 'clean'.

Let me know if you would like me to try anything to fix it.

I am blind!

Thank you Rebski for opening my eyes and reporting the error back again!
I totally missed the second error!
You guys are both missing libgnomecanvas that's also in my repository.

I'll take a look and report back in a minute...

So blind!

UPDATE: I just went to Maemo Downloads and clicked on "Click to Install" icon on the Xournal page. It installed both repositories (Maemo extras and my own), downloaded about 15Mb and it installed without any problems at all.

Uhmm... could you check if you have all the repositories (maemo extras and my own [Anidel...]) ?
If so, did you try to refresh, removed and re-installed it again ? how big it is the download with a fresh installation ?
Last, you could try to log in your tablet as root and run:

apt-get install libgnomecanvas

and tell me what does it say ?

It gives you errors try:

apt-get install -f

(always being root)

I could do it... but which icon would you remove in order to make space for it ?

Well, maybe you could sacrify the "open file" icon, or you could add a text icon without gettin rid of anyone because those icons in excess on the right margin will be still accessible through a small arrow (as when the xournal window is not maximized).

Agreed to remove the open icon.
I won't add the text button as it is, as that would mean that even in full screen we'll get the small arrow on the right (eating up more space)...
not sure, tho, when it'll be available.. hopefully this weekend or beginning of next week.

Release #6 is in the repository.

Go update it.

Starting from next release (if any), I will add a detailed changelog to the description of the package.
(following the good example of the 'modest' package)

Downloading now, first time, from the Maemo Downloads Click to Install link.
It's adding maemo Extras Devel, and Anidel repository (for Xournal)
install xournal 0.4.1-6 15 MB (downloading 14.8 MB) (yikes!)
Install went fine. Looks like you've got it worked out.
I'm a fan of good descriptions in installs.

App runs, scribbled some stuff, exported to PDF, loaded elsewhere.
All good.

I always wanted a vector based notepad on my Palm,
never found one I liked. This is awesome.
Thanks for porting it.

Yes, as you describe.

Uninstalled and reinstalled. My download is 2.25MB and gives the error error "Unble to install xournal".

Last, you could try to log in your tablet as root and run:

apt-get install libgnomecanvas

and tell me what does it say ?

libgnomecanvas is already the newest version.
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgnomeprint2.2: Depends: libart-2.0 (>= 2.0.0) but it is not going to be installed
xournal: Depends: libart-2.0 (>= 2.3.19) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

It gives you errors try:

apt-get install -f

Thanks to you for being my "customer"
I made the port, but I am actually using it only every now and then...that is, I've made it for you. And it's been fun so far...
