Will see. I was going to build evance with libspectre support just to avoid dependency to ghostscript. But it turned out that libspectre support for evince is only in upstream svn at the moment, not released yet. So, may be I should try to reduce ghostscript size for now and release evince with it, I don't know what's better to backport libspectre backend or to use ghostscript.

BTW, I managed to build ghostscript today and its size together with libgs8 is 9.7Mb without any optimizations. documentation and man pages are 236K in size and could be easily dropped. It also depends on gsfonts(4.9Mb), so total size it is about 14.6Mb, which is a lot, but not 33Mb. Are you sure anidel's build is 33Mb? In reality it's less than that because of jffs compression, but still it's quite a huge amount of space.

That's what it says under Show Installed Applications.
ghostscript 8.61-1 33MB
It downloaded as half that, more or less, same as yours.

When yours is installed, what does Application manager say?

There's 8 megs of docs in usr/share/ghostscript/8.61/doc,
including Details8.htm, which is a 2.5 meg HTML file,
the fascinating Detailed History Of Ghostscript Verions.
It's just possible that the system could run without that.

I don't think you're allowed to build it without including that stuff,
but there shouldn't be any harm in users deleting it after installation.

I didn't install mine with AM, just built it and installed in scratchbox. To check the size I unpacked all needed .debs into one directory and run du -sh . there.

Hi,

evince 2.21.1-1.maemo4 has been uploaded to extras-devel.

List of changes in this build:
1. Implemented navigation with the touchscreen. Thanks to Michele Campeotto for the patch.
Now you can tap in the top/bottom borders of the screen (120px) to scroll like space/backspace do, or on the left/right borders to go to next/previous page.
This closes feature request #1997 https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=547&atid=2065

2. Implemented special mode for '+' and '-' hw keys. In this mode these keys work as a PgDn/PgUp. Hw key 'select' works as a switcher between usual and special modes.
This closes FR #2032 https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=547&atid=2065
and bug #2002 https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=547&atid=2062

if you have better name for this mode don't hesitate to share it with me

3. 'Escape' hw key works as a 'rotate left'.

4. Fixed bug #2033 https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=547&atid=2062

5. Reduced package size by removing language files for languages not supported on tablet

6. Fixed Icons for 'rotate left', 'rotate right' menu items and icon for 'About' window.

Install file is at the same place: http://evince.garage.maemo.org/evince-devel.install

It's still developer build, not production quality software, so be careful and install it only if you know what it means.

Please share you opinions, findings, improvement ideas, etc.
Bugs and feature requests should be also filed in evince project tracker on garage.

Ed

That's great Ed! I'll have to reinstall OS 2008 this coming weekend to try it out.

Should it be uploaded now? (I don't see it.)

It should be there in 10 minutes. I uploaded it 40 minutes ago, but the scripts which put packages into repo run only once per hour, on 50th minute on each hour.

There it is! Thanks again Ed.

Um, would it be difficult to compile the new Evince for Bora?

PS: Are N770 users stuck on OS 2007? Is OS 2006 the last official version for N770, but the 2007 Hacker Edition lets them run OS 2007? What\where is the Hacker Edition?

"updating evince frees 1.6 megs of memory"

Not often an update to a program tells you something like that...

Ed,

On OS2008 on a N800 and when i try to install evince I get problems. Application manager says that hildon-libs0 and libdbus-1-2 are missing? Any clue what I should do?
Thanks!
