Ahhh, almost had it. I tried to install Lyx on easy debian, but it is huge! It manage to download it all, but it failed to install because it ran out of room. Now when I try to run Synaptic it tells me that I need to manually run:
dpkg --configure -a

When I do that it aborts because there is no space left on the device (For the newbies benefit, this refers to the 2 GB image file). Does any one have some suggestions for recovering some space and be able to complete the install?

Never mind. I deleted the easy debian image and I am going to start from scratch on it. I want to see lyx running on my N900 though. Maybe I need a larger easy debian partition. Hmmm... Well, I think I am first going to try removing the gimp and installing some of the lyx dependencies a bit at a time. I believe that once the downloaded debs are removed I should be OK with space.

Removing OpenOffice makes quite some room in the image. Since there is Abiword natively on maemo now, there's some less reason to install OpenOffice.

True, but, OOo is so cool! I played with it briefly and was very impressed! How is Abiword's ODF support? Besides, I believe that when it is all said and done I will be able to have GIMP back in as well, hopefully. So, reinstalling the GIMP should be a lot faster than reinstalling OOo.

Abiword's ODF support is pretty good but not as good as OOo's. It's OK for my needs.

By the way, an
Code:
apt-get clean
and
Code:
apt-get autoremove
will remove downloaded packages (after you installed them) and remove unnecessarily installed ones.
