ah, silly us, we need to convert the .osm data into a .bin format.

See this page: http://wiki.navit-project.org/index....f_a_small_area

The files I downloaded were all .bins (i.e., already converted.)

Would be great if we could get another Maemo release to see if we can get this thing working. Would REALLY like onboard routing.

And thanks for checking around lardman --- not sure if this project had died out (quickly).

I'm using navit-20080313.deb from http://www.tecdencia.net/navit/ and it works fine on my n800 and n810 with a OpenStreetMap bin file.
Just modify the .xml config file, launch navit, active the GPS from the control panel, and unzoom the map to find my OSM data. GPS works and routing too with right(long-tap) click to select destination.

I've emailed the author of the package last week :
"I'm working on some customizations for
the n810 but I think I could make another package just to be updated.
Check the site next week and maybe you'll find a newer package."

Awesome news! Also, thank you for the tips, murphy. By connecting to GPS AFTER launching the app, it kept it from crashing. However, I still don't quite understand how to get routing to work. If I choose destination from the drop-down and enter my address, I don't see how to confirm it as the destination. If I go to the map and hold the stylus, I do have an option to set THAT point as the destination, but what if I wanted to use my current GPS origin and my typed in destination as the A-to-B to route from?

Thanks!

Good stuff, that's a more up to date version.

For my map of the UK using the release from Garage, all I see are bits of road/river along the borders of the map squares. Not ideal.

I take it back, that's the same version I have installed. At least some chance of some updates though

Well, that's all good/ not-so-good news. Good to hear that this project hasn't died for the maemo platform, but at the same time, I thought routing included the turn-by-turn directions with speech.

Hi all.

Finally I have it running with Mexico map (gamin format/INEGI).
the path in the XML file must include the file name of the map.
Run Slow, route is not possible (missing "accept/Ok" button).

I will drive today and give to you more info. also I will try with
other maps in weekend.

Br.
