Here is some water for the fire: the LinuxTag participation and the content of that post have nothing to do with devices, old or new.

Especulate as much as you want about future devices but don't mix LinuxTag on this. It will be interesting, for other reasons.

It was - of course - unlikely, but it's fun re-igniting hypothetical "my brother's friend's wife has a school friend who now works as a janitor at Nokia and saw N900 plans in the bin" threads.

It was promising to be interesting anyway, but it sounds like there's something more than what's expected which will be interesting? Dare I say, "exciting"?

Cheers,

Andrew [still annoyed at not being able to go]

I'm as anxious to see (not necessarly purchase, yet) the N900 and anything next Nokia has in the IT framework; but right now, there is a lot that is a guess as to what will happen.

Now, one can do things like look at job listings, recent acquisitions, concepts, etc. and draw some conclusions as possible directions, but frankly, other than the traditional timeline, there is nothing to indicate that there is another model coming so soon after the N810WME.

...of course, you can look at all those things and then see that the IT just might be primed for more than just a Nokia show, but that's just me drawing too many conclusions from breadcrumbs all over the place.

The 770 was presented on May 2005, then there was a longer pause till the N800 was presented in January 2007, and after that, the N810 came pretty quick in October 2007 (with its WiMAX cousin being announced in April 2008)...I assume one reason for the longer pause between the 770 and the N800 was that there was a platform change between these two handsets.
So - if the next tablet is OMAP3 based, as we all hope, I guess it might take a little longer till it will appear. But I still hope we'll see the next iteration in 2008...

I really wouldn't count the Wimax Edition as another model, it's just an N810 with some Wimax hardware added. It's the equivalent of those Nokia phones which are reissued with wi-fi added but otherwise the same.

Hardly anyone will actually use the N810WME anyway, because it's such a small part of the world that they will be available in.

Humourous discussion on #maemo is focusing around wish-fulfilment: N900 ;-)
Yes we all know what's happening on that date....

The first beta release of diablo ;-)

Like I said elsewhere, what I want to see is "Maemo with Android extensions" (and a finger friendly GUI; and a PIM suite with syncing to Mozilla, Google, and maybe Apple and Outlook) on:

E66
E71
E90 successor
"Tube"

Hopefully with all 3 of those having WCDMA 1700 support (T-Mobile USA 3G).

So, I want to see Maemo jumping over to the phone products, before I see a new NIT (but not instead of a new NIT; the N900 can come later).

You won't see Maemo on a phone soon...
