Surely the discount you'll get will make up for it.

For me, maybe, but not for the many other people I know who wont be getting a discount and will not be buying the N900 because of the stupid modem.

Nokia could make this all really easy if they'd just give people options. . . .

I agree, but on the other hand, I doubt the big guys are moving completely stupidly. Odds are they expect to pick up more new customers than they lose of the old.

Still, I do grant the (personal opinion excluded) of it to early adopters.

It's sad that they're just abandoning the people that helped build the platform in the process, though.

They're not abandoning anyone by adding the modem. Those people are abandoning Nokia.

Because they can't afford a $500+ tablet?

That's speculation.

Perhaps.

The whole cellular discussion is largely a waste of time, anyway. I think I'll just stay out of it in the future.

Well.. again.. as long as the platform is usable and is able to be bought WITHOUT ANY commitment to anyone or requirement for a SIM card.. like the current one is.

AND as long as I can load whatever OS I can port onto it .. like the current one does..

Then I'll consider the N900 if it's in the same price range.

If the addition of the 3G modem makes it so I have to purchase a cellular commitment with the device like the iPhone.. I will not.

As far as I "know" the "N900" doesn't need a SIM card to operate. Without SIM it is just like the "old N810".
