So... the new thing is the X6 music phone?
Other than that, the price predictions (for n900 and booklet) mentioned in this forum were spot on.

Supposedly the N900 was announced before because they had something amazing to show, and they wanted to avoid the N900 taking all the stage. The X6 (and the S40 X3) are good, but not precisely what I expected (*cough* N920/RX-71). Although I have a suspicion that the X6 has a capacitive screen (the video mentions a "glass screen"). If they are indeed using it, then would serve also to shut the naysayers for a while.

Yeah, I'm personally not too fond of all the step analogies... As if there would be no further steps after step 5, as if step 4 i.e. N900 wouldn't already be a very good device. Every next device is basically a step forward.

Well, as long as it is not mentioned in the marketing material of the N900, perhaps it doesn't matter all that much. Anssi Vanjoki is entitled to say whatever he pleases.

Ragnar, there's slightly different sense in this analogy. It's about reaching mainstream consumer in 5 steps, not just make 5 bricks

There's no point in always waiting for the next best thing.
And he is talking about software. There's a good chance that the n900 will be able to have Harmattan. As far as I understand, there's not much difference between omap4 and omap5, the latter is just faster. Correct me if i'm wrong
I don't think that there's OMAP5 available at the moment. Were you thinking of OMAP4 maybe, Since N900 uses OMAP 3430, which is OMAP3.

About the steps, just in case you find it useful here is the guideline I keep reminding to myself.

Look at the wide picture, since this is the one Anssi Vanjoki looks when talking about Maemo steps.

Even if he enumerates steps through devices it's actually not about the devices themselves. As you say, after the 5th there will be a 6th and so on. Still, it might well be that the 5th step consolidates the category of mobile computers.

It's not about Maemo releases either. We are in the 5th, there will be a 6th and hopefully more. Still, it might well be that Harmattan represents a major milestone marking a before and an after.

What, then? Well, look at the rest of elements that make a platform successful nowadays. Maemo is doing a big progress with this iteration and we can't wait seeing the N900 in the hands of real users. But I also like the fact that our Executive Vice President of Markets reminds everybody that the Maemo ambition is even higher and our machinery keeps working at full steam.

If you are reading these lines you surely want to have the joy of this "step 4" in your hands. Specially you will want to say "I was there before!" when the step 5 is unfolded. And last but not least, you (yes, you, with your feedback and engagement) are an important factor of success of that step 5, already today.

What better than Quim himself clearing the air on this. Wake up guys. Find your respective pre-order links and there you go. Lets collectively be a part of history

cheers to that. it is, indeed, an important step in Nokia's history. I for one am reassured by Anssi's statements alluding to the future. They don't want to leave any doubt that they still have some tricks up their sleeves. exciting times!
