how about we start a testing team where those who sign up meet in chat few hours a week with list of apps to test and guidelines to follow of what to look out for.
even if only the team does 5 apps a week its still +5 more to whatever amount and every little helps

Nice idea. Do you really think it has not been attempted before (hello, VDVsx)? It did not work: very few people came.

PS: Also notice that you are supposed to retest and vote on every new update to the existing application.

now though there is many more people with the new device all it needs is a handful of enthusiastic users here for the long run out the 1000+ unique visitors maemo.org now gets daily
daily traffic as doubled so should not be as hard as in the past to find and replace people

Are you saying that there is no solution? Maybe now with more people around things could work?

The trouble is that it will be some time before the 'new guys' are familiar with Maemo/N900 enough that they can meaningfully test applications (and know what to do if hell breaks loose).

The solution is either to lower passage criteria or to make more people vote. Given how passive consumers generally are, the second option appears unfeasible.

It was already decided to halve required votes, implementation is just lacking...

I wish that'll work, but I have my doubts about it on the long term (where more and more apps pile up and 'compete' for tester time).

If that is the solution it should be implemented soon. But then we could end with software that comes with more bugs.
