I have to agree, it's nice to see your icon, handful! (Though I rather miss the version that had your sweetheart in the picture, too.)

Thanks for visiting us here. I look forward to Etrunko's visit and fix.

Any word on a fix? Having a broken Canola 2 is depressing me more than I thought it would!

Anyhow, Etrunko is the only one that can fix this, He was already looking into the issues, as I was got some messages from old users on my personal gtalk account. But now he has been on vacations ( he was also fixing several stuff but the focus was to get it working on the Maemo5). He pointed out that it looked like a lot of things changed in the repos, so the fix was not straight forward.

We really want to dedicate more time to that, but we were also overloaded with current projects and lack of new team members. So even free time has been a problem.

Anyhow, the situation is quite serious and we are deeply sorry, we tried our best to convince people here that the app deserved "comercial" grade support, but people said "don't worry" community will take care what of course didn't happens even when we told them it wouldn't .

Etrunko will for sure enter and come back to you with updates.

Best regards

Marcelo

It's been three weeks and we are yet to hear from Etrunko.

O que está acontecendo? (Anyway, that's how Google Translate says "What's happening?" in Portuguese.)

This is all a little sad, while I had no intention of ever installing Canola in my n810, once I did I fell in love with the way it handled RSS and Pod-casts youtube and my photos .

Canola set the bar for pod-casting I was able to download 6 pod casts in the morning before I left and listen to them at leisure. (I wish there was a purge RSS cash though) my n810 touch screen died and I have patently waited for my n900, and now it is here I enjoy there are many improvements on the media player but i stress it docent touch Canola`s ability to manage RSS pod-casts and downloads.

Installing the latest version of Canola tuning plugin is the cure at the moment. At least it worked for me and few others who reported problems. I think you need to cleanup the current installation first and then install Canola and tuning plugin.

Tried just that and still no luck. I uninstalled anything Canola 2-related, ran the cleanup, and reinstalled Canola 2 and the tuning add-on. Still won't show video. Very irritating. I think I'm done trying to work with Canola 2 and will stick with Mediabox for everything.

I've sent a message to Etrunko and a new message to Handful (lead people involved in Canola's development and with communicating with about it with the Maemo community) asking them to visit this thread and provide help.

Hey guys,

As you've already heard from Marcelo (Handful), I am actually the only one working on Canola, and it has been done basically during my free time, which has not been much for quite some time.

Before I left for my 30 day vacation, internal projects were demanding more than full work time from myself and other guys. It was quite stressful for the great majority of people and we did deserve the days off. Also, I must add that Internet connection here in Brazil is a big deal in cities I usually stay during the period, visiting my parents and family. So, you might guess that I spent basically all my vacations offline.

With that said, I'll try to keep up with the Canola issues reported here in the forums. But I would like very much to ask to you all to help me to filter the problems. If possible, I would be very glad if you joined the #canola IRC channel on freenode (same network of #maemo). It's definitely the best and quickest way to contact me as I have to check this many other communication channels, such as bugzilla, mailing lists and the forum itself.

So, in summary, I'm reading the full thread in this very moment to trying to distill the issues.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Kind regards, Etrunko

I have any devel catalogues disabled. So this recommended update is coming from some "ordinary" repo.
First of all, Canola was not promoted from extras-devel to neither extras testing, nor extras repository for Diablo and Fremantle. It's only available on the extras repository for the ancient and unmaintained Chinook, which runs only on the N800 devices. Anyway, I thought most of you who own one of those had already upgraded to Diablo long time ago. If not, you should do it ASAP.

So handful and you openbossa guys (or anyone else in the know): what's going on?
So basically this is one of the reasons why Canola has not been promoted to the extras repository yet. Application Manager can't handle conflicting packages correctly. There is indeed some lightmediascanner conflicting packages and it was needed so we could follow the upstream debian packages.

One simple solution and something that proves that App Mgr is missing some feature (or it is indeed a bug - still need to check) is to get root on xterm and type:

# apt-get install canola2

It will see the conflicts, but will also see that the new packages replace the old ones and installation will succeed.
