Guys, there's no need to get all defensive.

The OP, by his own admission, has had very limited contact with a real device. His opinion is largely based on suppositions. Read that, and simply move on. There are threads around here containing real comments - good and bad - from people who have now been playing with production models for a few days. Those are the opinions to consider.

We need to get past 'n900 is God' to 'n900 is a damned good phone but it has weaknesses'. Like the day you realised that hot date you fell in love with snores and leaves the lid off the toothpaste.

There's no need to make a huge noise at this poster. He has simply made the mistake of posting a rather uninformed opinion on a bulletin board. Is that such a rare thing?

Reading it makes me said. It sounds like the retail version is either worse than the pre-production-model or something is wrong with that person. Sentences like "the software is buggy" make me ask myself: Why didn't I see buggy software( any bug at all ) in all those youtube videos. The worst I've seen was MicroB crashing, watching over 200 videos probably.
I just hope, that it isn't true. It is scary how people give back their copies of the device after 14 days, when everyone wants one.
I refuse to believe that. Prices on ebay go up to $1000, why would they give back their devices?
I'm hoping that he is just one of the apple fan boys & everythings alright.
If you have a retail copy, please tell me there are no such things like "non-scrollable applications in the menu after installing something".

How can it be that you are disappointed about a device that was presented as preproduction model? And how can you be disappointed about the DEVICE when the SHIPPING delayes? Nokia delayed because of incomplete not perfect software, and since 10th november they're ready to go.

Post again if you tried one with final software...

However, the overall experience of the N900 is one of awesomeness, so you probably won't see real owners posting "Disappointed" threads very often.

It might happen. But it will be from people who bought the N900 expecting something completely different, or people who have a very narrow idea of what they want to do with their mobile device, or people who want/need specific non-supported features.

If you have read the articles and seen lots of the videos and you really want to get the N900, then don't worry, you'll be happy with the N900.

But I know. If you don't have it yet, the waiting just makes you kind of psychotic.
Fixed it for ya

they are both retail.

42-11 is the Global release.
42-11.002 is the USA variant
42-11.003 is for Middle East and North Africa

yup, no HD with composite possible. You can only adapt to scart, which does no better results.
If you want to output HD from a semi-mobile device, there's still the Nokia Booklet 3G with HDMI output.

edit:
here ya go:
SDTV: 480i (NTSC uses an analog system of 486i split into two interlaced fields of 243 lines)
SDTV: 576i (PAL, 720×576 split into two interlaced fields of 288 lines)

All I can say is that N900 exceeded my expectations when I got it. Unlike the original poster who doesn't even have the phone.

It is so good I even dumped my iPod touch to a bottom drawer that I originally had no intention of obsoleting, but I did. After a day.

The browser is divine. Performance flawless. YouTube, just like on desktop. Perfect.

My impressions can be found starting here:

And unlike the crippled Apple offerings, this one actually multitasks. And does it well.

SD obviously since it is a composite video output.

I've been reading http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...3&page=3&pp=15 and it worry's me some. I just hope he got a bad device and the same thing isn't happening like it did with the E90 when it first came out ( buggy as **** and not nearly completed OS or even hardware for that matter )
