Yeah, I love the sexy voice

I turn MaemoMapper on and run around with it just to hear it...

I've only ever used GPS once - someone travelled with me and brought their device. It had the voice of Ozzy Osborne swearing at me at every roundabout. So I'm not over enthused about sat-nav. I'd rather get lost. than endure that again.

Yes, but it can be fun - a mate and I were driving around Norway and had a great time trying to make his gps (I can't remember which it was, but it was a lovely calm female voice) tell us to do a u-turn. Eventually we headed up a mountain pass and after a few minutes stumbling along she said 'At the first chance, perform a U-turn"

Jubilance ensued. Pints were had in celebration.

And, the next time I read "it can't do {insert whatever}..." I'll check the User Guide I've downloaded. As pointed out in another thread, Page 74 talks about playlists.

I'm off to RTFM

I see someone already beat me to it, but what are you saying, that Stephen Hawking and I don't have sexy man voices?

Well, if Ozzy was rather singing the directions...

Anyway, my biggest gripe is the App Manager. Good god, was that so hard...

As far as what I expected, I think I'm gonna change my name to Nostradamus; there have been no major surprises here, except maybe one. And that might be you Kathy, because if in 6 months you still believe what you wrote in your original post, I would have had you pegged all wrong. My first impressions were that you were heading down the same road as this wonderful person, but it's obvious that I wasn't even close. You seem to be the real deal and I hope your level-headedness and optimism continue to be very infectious.

You can change the voice, you know!

LOL... I can only imagine GPS with Ozzy's voice. The directions would be unintelligible, and once you exceeded the expected time of arrival by a lengthy span it would shout "Shaaaarrrronnnn!!!"

I'm expecting something significantly better than my N810.

The thing that worries me the most is navigation/mapping. I bought my N810 hoping to use it as a GPS. I gave up on that after being profoundly disappointed with every solution I tried.

My fantasy is that the N900 will (soon) have a navigation/mapping solution as good (and as free) as Verizon's Droid.

If navigation/mapping is a bust on the N900, I will be very disappointed. And if I can't use navigation/mapping without a data connection, I'll be upset (and, based on some reports, it looks like I will indeed be upset).

I believe I will be pleased with everything else about the N900 based on what I have seen/read.
