That's actually not a bad idea. People with bad mics could post their S/N here to see if they're close => bad batch of phones. Or maybe there's another pattern (multiples of 13?)

Not a bad idea at all. Especially if we could already spot some day of manufacturing.

It would be interesting to see if the system has some problems loading the driver for the mic.
Thanks for trying to solve this MikeC - I fear your post got lost in the distress.

Can you explain exactly the steps you are asking people to take to supply that information please: some folks here are new to all this. If you have a solution, you'll be the hero of the hour!

(Mine is ok, BTW)

Not wanting to steal MikeC's glory for his contribution, here's how to get dmesg output:
*open terminal (yup, no other option that i know of)
*type "dmesg" (no quotes)
*copy+paste
If the output seems enormous, try "dmesg | tail" to leave just the most recent (that's a straight bar, no quotes)

looking at the dmesg seems to imply the driver is loading compared to a known good unit. prob means a duf mic.

The driver is linked to the bluetooth, so maybe something strange there. can you have a play with turning the bluetooth on and off and see if makes a diff.
