DCIM needs to be there for the device to be recognized as camera (for photo import to PC etc.). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_...ra_File_system. (Actually N900 does not follow other rules, but that still works.)

None of the Symbian devices had that problem, and apps recognize them fine. Sure you know what you're talking about?

Could it be that under Symbian the "DCIM" is abstracted?

I don't mind my device having "DCIM" as the folder name for my camera pictures. I just don't like the File Manager "abstracting" everything by changing the folder names. At the very least, I want to be able to switch to "advanced" mode and see everything the "right" way.

I must admit that the file:// trick is very clever, though...

I've added emelfm2 to my Fremantle repository. N900 users can install it by adding my repo to your list.

Just a warning, though. My repository is generally for not-in-Fremantle-repos packages. Be careful what you install from there!

Catalogue Name: Qole
Web address: http://qole.org/repository
Distribution: maemo
Components: fremantle

Is this the same build that we run in Diablo? I thought a porting process was necessary to run a Diablo app under Fremantle. Does it work in Fremantle same as it does in Maemo 4?

Ok, I bit the bullet and installed it.

Meh.

I'd say it's a fail.

Consider the screenshot from my n810 in comparison: the new widgets from maemo 5 are too big and ugly.
I think that my first project when I get the device will be to run binaries with old widgets from maemo 4 by the use of some kind of sandbox environment (ld_preload? chroot?).
I can't understand why loads of software ported to maemo 4 are to be thrown away - it's stupid.

EDIT if you dig into emelfm2 configuration, you'll find several places where you can select menu icon and text width. I bet that playing with these controls you can obtain an usable view.

All we need is emelfm2 looking exactly as it does on the N810...perhaps a bit more polished as was said before, but I dont find it completely necessary to make it look all "fremantley" lol It will be a must have for me so I can change icons, startup images/sounds/whatever and edit .desktop files to change the displayed names of apps...sometime I just dont care for what an app is named. Such as Pidgin...I find it silly and since I only use Yahoo IM I rename it "Yahoo Messenger"
