I'm not sure - it should get created automatically by Ovi Maps (and does here). You could try creating it, but that won't help if Ovi Maps still fails to put the necessary files in there for the Map Loader to recognise. The only other thing I can think of is that it's creating them on the memory card instead (if you have one installed) - have you checked for that?

I fail to understand why the only way to update maps app, and download maps even on S60 is via this application.

Why pre-req the PC. All of these devices are totally capable of having a little app to download pre-selected maps. By all means offer a PC version too, but not depend on it.

N900 especially is a full computer in it's own right. there shouldnt be any pc dependence.

HOW TO MAKE NOKIA MAP LOADER WORK IN WIN 7 64-BIT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Find the .qf file in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory

2) Make a copy of the .qf file, and rename it to "qf" (without the dot in front, unhides the file) in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory

3) Make another same copy of the file named "qf" and put it into the root dir of the sd card as well

4) Use the n900 in PC Suite Mode with Nokia Map Loader

Notes:
So there are 2 identical files named "qf", one on sd card and one in phone memory. The 2 qf files seem to appear as 1 file in PC Suite mode, and the n900 is detected in PC Suite mode.

Nokia Map Loader seems to report the capacity of the sd card, but the maps are actually loaded to the phone's flash memory. I'm not sure what happens when you exceed that limit or try something funny.

I'm interested in any comments whether this method works with Windows Vista 32/64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit.

P.S. I'm using Win 7 64-bit, Nokia Map Loader version 3.0.28.0.

P.P.S. Virtual PC eats resources and is a hassle, that is why I try to avoid XP Mode.
Confirmed!
Works for me!

This is what happens.

1.- Open Nokia Map loader (latest).
2.- If my n900 is on mass storage, it tells me to put my phone in pc suite mode.
3.- If my n900 is on PC-Suite mode, it tells me to update the mal loader (which is the latest) or to put the phone on mass storage mode.

Does anyone knows a fix for this?

Had the same problem. Turns out when you connect N900 to computer in Mass Storage it connects both SD card and Phone. Disconnect the SD card and then run Map Loader. It'll only read the N900, where your DiskCache for Ovi Maps is. Then it's straight forward to download maps straight to phone.

Please, could someone explain to me which is the difference between the maps preinstalled and the ones in the Nokia with the Nokia Map Loader?
Would it be possible, please, have a pass to pass guide with Windows Vista?
I guess the root directort is /, but which is the root directory of the SD card?
