I need an exactly this kind of note-keeper (it reminds me a hi-note).

The only my concern - how I can control "roll-in/roll-out" of trees? It seems it does it but in some strange way - to roll-out a tree I should double click on next tree...

Any another way?

Additional Qs - is it possible:

1. Keep "Add Note" somehow on screen while I am browsing the long list of un-rolled tree?

2. Unroll only a specific tree/subtree - right now it is totally out of control?

3. Import notes from some text file?

Oops. Big disappointment: when i asked people about an app to make text notes and sketches i thought it is pretty obvious i need both within a single note ;-)

Will this feature be added, by any chance?

FWIW, i think that most "node-based" note apps work this way: one type per node.

Imagine taking fast lecture or meeting notes, the usage pattern is self-explaining ;-)

I can understand the use case for a freeform note app as contrasted with a node-based app (MaePad), i've just never seen one that works that way. Apparently the Newton could do it well.

Very slick app.
Just a few comments:
  • As it already can visualise graphics (though self drawn) it should not be a big deal to import arbitrary graphics (png, gif, jpeg, etc.) to the canvas. Notecase (http://notecase.sf.net) could do this (but not draw on them). PDF would also be great (like xournal and then comment on them)
  • As mentioned before a search facility comes in handy, type as you search prefered
More ideas to come

Yes, exactly. I changed the D-Bus name from com.nokia.maemopadplus to org.maemo.maepd, and then changed the app name in osso_initialize from "maempadplus" to "maepad" - resulting in this error. I fixed it by "expanding" the parameter to osso_initialize to include the full object path, and used "org.maemo.maepad" now.

(I don't know if it's relevant, but I also made sure that the X-Osso-Service entry in the .desktop file matched the rest. I did all this clean-ups in one go, so I don't know if it's relevant to the issue or not. It's definitely not obvious to the developer why this happens, and the close-downs do seem random :/)

Yes, it uses maemo-optify.

Check out the file contents of the .deb file. There should be files having an /opt path. It's a bit more difficult (as is the whole optification thingie), but this "basic" check will give you a clue if it's optified or not. For installed package, you can use "dpkg -L packagename" to get a list of installed files.

Definitely possible, but it will take away precious vertical screen space. You will be able to see one less entry if we are going to keep the button visible all the time. An alternative would be an item in the AppMenu or a hardware key shortcut. If you like this, please add it as feature request to the bug tracker.

I guess with "roll/unroll" you mean "expand/collapse"? If so, we don't really want to implement this right now (as it turns out to be difficult with the interaction model of the treeviews - touch = "activate"). As already mentioned earlier, search-as-you-type seems to be more likely and will hopefully allow you to reach the desired node just as fast.

Definitely a good feature request. Please file it as such in the bug tracker.

I think the tool you want is Aniello's Xournal. Merging texts and sketches is not really an aim of MaePad, and it would take much time to implement. Given that Xournal already has this functionaliy, I'd rather not have it in MaePad, and concentrate on features unique to MaePad.
