That would be a real downgrade. And, unfortunately, if rumors are true, the next Maemo/MeeGo device will sport both of those, which is precisely the reason I won't buy it (plus no QWERTY kb, which is even bigger of a deal breaker).

I'd never trade the precission of a resistive touchscreen for some gimicky multitouch, and N900s touchscreen is almost as sensitive as cap. screens. I would, however, pay for the Stantum resistive touchscreen update.

As for AMOLED, battery savings are minimal, while you loose the ability to read anything on the screen in a direct sunlight/strong light source, and mobile devices are mobile precisely for the reason to be able to use them when outside...

I too feel that capacitive touch-screens have become too much of a buzz-word and not enough people understand the trade-offs. I have been extremely unhappy with every capacitive touchscreen phone I've tried for any period of time. I've used a lot of resistive panel devices with which I've had problems as well, particularly with calibration issues, dead zones, etc., but I've never had a problem with a resistive panel on a Nokia device.

I use a lot of applications that require greater precision than fat fingers can provide. These are not simple cases where a UI redesign would solve the problemm either. The inability to use a conventional stylus, fingernail, etc. with capacitive screens is an absolute deal-killer for me. The few capacitive styli available, such as the Pogo stick are bad jokes that provide scarcely any better precision than a finger.

Multi-touch on a phone sized device is largely a gimmick, with few usability benefits and a lot of downsides. The situation is different on an Ipad or tabletop size.

If you want to know why Resistive touchscreens are better, just have a look at the MyPaint thread in Multimedia and try doing the same on a Capacitive screen

i wouldnt pay for amoled, i already did expect it on the n900. even my old 300 euro-phone had amoled (samsung s8000)

multitouch with capacitive screen i dont really want. i'm just nota big fan of the "handling" these kind of screens provide. although multitouch would be nice.
what happened to multitouch on resistive screens anyway? i remember seeing a video showing perfectly working multitouch on resistive screens.
