that's how it was in maemo 4.

the fremantle team @ nokia doesn't seem to like the virtual keyboard. they make it worse with every change they apply.

first i thought that this would lead towards something great, such as swype. but meanwhile i think they're just trying to make it as unattractive as possible, so that one day they can remove it "based on market research an low demand".

Yep, the pre-Fremantle virtual keyboards supported gestures, which made typing easier, more productive and even a bit fun (especially on the N800 with a stylus). This has been removed in Fremantle for some (seemingly) pseudo-multitouch text input feature that does not really work for me that well. The hardware keyboard is very good, though.

The Virtual keyboard is going to be a disaster for Asian Keyboard. Normally Thai keyboard used 4 vertical buttons and 11 horizontally.

So this new V.keyboard will be a challenge for Thai and other language keyboard.

Wrong... You need to do more research man. 256mb was the largest during the time of the N900 design. And now it is not anymore. There is already 512Mb RAM and ROM space for Nexus One.

Double of the size that is.. 512Mb is not even yet be the largest. It is still 1GB coming up. Technology is always evolving and improving.

wonder if ukeyboard runs in scratchbox with the new SDK and how it behaves wrt this new - thing. i set up an alternative german layout for the VKB that has the "ß" on the front tab and features some turkish characters so i can at least spell some of my friends' names correctly. would be a pity if that doesn't work any more.

Just for info, the google translation:
http://translate.google.com/translat...ml&sl=sv&tl=en

But for me, this chat doesn't hold much info, and nothing is said about wether or not navigation would be updated and if it is a big update or not. Just useless info imho ...

As sad as that sounds, there is no point updating the N900 hardware. Maemo 6 will not be available for it, and by the time an end-user ready Meego gets released, even the updated hardware would be outdated. So, sadly, for the N900, that's it, hardware-wise. The bigger shame, however, is that the stars did not align for an OMAP4 device for the Harmattan device. Oh well...
