Guess what; the N900 is a niche device that still has unscrupulous bastards that pirate what little commercial software is available. The level and games are cheap anyway so deal with it - unless you want it even less likely that developers will care about creating or porting software to our devices.

Err.. you don't think pirating exists on the iPhone? It's even easier.

The real reason is that on the iPhone there's competition. Rovio competes with other game developers. Hence all the 99 cent apps you see on iPhone. While on the N900 there's not much competition hence they can charge what they would normally charge.

I know that there is piracy on the iPhone. My point is that the N900 is much more of a gamble for any developer. Recouping your cost on a popular device is easier even when the usual piracy is taken in to account. Frankly I would be amazed if the sales of any N900 game reach the thousands.

Anyway the levels are cheap. It is not like anyone's wallet will be hurt by a few US$.

True it is a gamble. But if your porting a game over you take less of a risk (probably why all the games we've seen so far that have been released or in development) are ports of iPhone games.

Let's remain on topic! Any news regarding the progress of the new version and level packs on OVI?

Another thing that 'motivates' competitiveness on the iPhone side is that you get plenty (PLENTY!!) of free marketing when you're doing well. The list of 'top sellers' are displayed prominently in the front page of the app store and there are LOADS of 3rd party sites/blogs that cover these movements which garner further traffic and sales to the product.

If I'm not mistaken, Angry Birds have been selling amazingly well and it's been hovering in the all time Top 10 for quite sometime..

The store says it's v1.3.4, but if you install it, it says it's still 1.1.0 :/
