Why the pointless argues? Just measure who has the biggest penis and he wins. Simple

If you want to have some fun, take your cousin out into the bright sunlight with his iPhone.
Then let him answer to an email. Do the same with your N900.
Your cousin will struggle with seeing anything on that cool retina display and will have a hard time to hit the keys on the onscreen keyboard in sunlight.

There may well be sound reasons why an iPhone is a better device for him, but the real reasons are probably that:

1) Everyone else has one, so he should have one as well to make himself feel better.

2) iPhone is the best device for people who have limited understanding and minimal demands from their mobile device.

These points are not an attempt to knock iPhone (for which I have great admiration); I believe most people buy one because their peers have one or because they are ignorant of the different capabilities and potential of the wide range of devices available.

If he's having to resort to insults and name-calling as opposed to reasoned and well-researched discussion, he's already lost his own argument, hasn't he?

Well, I'm not sure if someone else has told you the similar experience. Ignore me if they do.

Since the launch of iPhone 4 I've always been publicly challenged - by 'challenge' I mean people are so eager to mimic what I'm doing with my N900.

Once I've been in a train a girl sat next to me while I was watching movie on my N900. She took her iPhone 4 out of her LV bag and did the same thing. When I was tired watching movie I switch to a browser and browse randomly, then I started to notice she did the same. I went youtube, she went youtube; I went facebook, she went facebook.

Since I were in a good mood that day I didn't mind helping her doing some kind of benchmarking with her newly acquired iPhone 4. So I overclocked the N900 to 1150Mhz, connected it back to my home via VPN, rdesktop to my Windows 7 and open mails on it; restarted the movie, opened mp3 player, opened facebook (full page version), and some other applications I didn't recall - then I press the little icon to the top left of the screen to let 6-7 windows running simultaneously.

Then I look back at her, to see if she'd like to join me in the benchmarking.

She left.

What I want to say is I like to way N900 doing multitasking. Sorry for the long and tedious story.

I wouldn't have any other device than the N900 right now. There's nothing else available that suits or interests me. This is the first phone I have bought for myself for at least five years, prior to this I was happy with my wife's 'sloppy seconds' just for the occasional voice call. The N900 is the first device available which I considered to offer a truly mobile computing proposition all packaged up like a phone. It was a natural progression from a netbook (now gathering dust).

I'm not trying to knock iPhone users here, but the way I see it, iPhones are for people who are happy to work 'inside the box' with the tools provided. Devices like the N900 are for users who want to challenge what can or can't be done and constantly seek to think 'outside the box'.

All this considered, I haven't recommended the N900 to a single friend because most of them would be better suited to the iPhone or Android environment. So I'm with you on this Nightfire. The N900 is far from being the best phone for every user by a long mile. Those that see the appeal of devices like the N900 will gravitate towards them and those that don't wont. That's what's great about the free market, we all have a choice.

When he say i don't need.. you could say the same. What does his Iphone4 do that you need and can't do on your n900?

* Could he use the Iphone as a remote for the TV?
* Radio still exists and are less expensive than streaming
* Can he transmit to radio.. like when he is in the car?
* How much memory space do he have?
* How well does his picture look when it's dark or when they are taken against a window? (n900=facam)
* How do he answer the phone if he has gloves on?
* Can he fart better now cause of all the fart apps?
* Can he start a program from he's computer on the telephone ("SSH -X")
* Can he start a program from he's telephone on the computer
* Can he skype video to you?
* Can he Grooveshark? (spotify clone)
* e.t.c

The biggest and not the leastest point. Do it run linux!?

I would agree with this if it wasn't for the fact that so many people have demonstrated that they know very little about the iphone's capabilities thus creating straw men to beat down. The iphone has always had TV out and can view full web pages (not mobile) with browsers from the app store. It can run other OS's with open iboot and has had mouse and keyboard support before the n900.

And for rdesktop:

Reading the opening post, just ask why he feels like he has to justify his purchase and try to prove it's superior to your phone.
