I'm currently looking for work so I have a lot of time I can devote to MeeGo and Maemo development, which I'm doing, but I'm also looking for work, because I need money and with 0 donations currently it's obviously not a viable income model.
That is exactly what I mean

I love too develop on this platform (last week never to bed before than 4am). You did a great job with it but...no donation, like a lot of other very good project.
If you get a good amount of money you can think to open a little software house and than take all this like a job perhaps.

Without money, you (and me and a lot of other good developer) have to look for a "real" job that first or after "kill" this type of activity.

(Again hope you all can understand me, my english is not so fluent and I really don't want that someone misunderstand my words)

I see it as a sliding scale, I'm able to do a lot of work on Columbus now, but when I (hopefully) eventually get employed full time, I'll still be able to work on it, just not as much. But it'll still evolve and become what I want it to be. Which is fine by me

A lot of times I use an app for a while before i even realise the dev. has a way to donate, some don't even have a visible way to donate to them(looking at you MAG). but when there is, I give what I can.

(it wasn't till I went through my paypal account last week that I realised how much I had donated over the past year.)

sometimes if you put up a donation leaderboard you will get people trying to out donate each other and you can get some high amounts

but as tswindell said you could end up with nothing at all if no one got enough liquid funds at the time(the holiday season does make people very poor) but I hope you get rewarded for your hard work(otherwise what's the point) which ever route you take.

Sorry for offtopic..
IMO Donating trought webpages is too troublesome to most of users. Most of "everythingnowandhere" generation wants single button that has 3€ by default and is connected to itunes/google/nokia etc account. So that you are able to donate from your device with ~3 taps at most. Everything beyond that is too troublesome to Average Joes.

Maybe you're right, but there's also the fact that if they're not willing to be bothered to donate for something they use and enjoy using, they're not necessarily the type of person that would donate at all :P

They are just too busy doing everything else (like endlessly scrolling trought menus with nice fluid animation and candy) and if there is donation than needs login to some paypal webpage trought hand held device then itīs too troublesome and they do not bother. Thatīs just reality with most of people :|

I do not blame these people but IMO making donation as easy as possible is something that would benefit everyone.

paypal mobile app is the perfect solution then, similar to what ovi is on the N900 if you are logged-in in OVI IM and then browse OVI store, and try to download something, the browser will pull your OVI info and just 2 clicks and you are download rather than typing anything.
Type once and validate ur account and then boom thats it.
could even add google checkout so everytime you try to buy something online and hit checkout (where applicable) you get an option within browser on the bottom like OVI store to either use paypal or google check out to process your transaction.

Bottom-line for me is that if it works well and provides necessary functionality, I am willing to pay for it.

A lot of users have been waiting a long time for this. I hope you can get it into Ovi and the project just doesn't disappear.

Donation or OVI is fine for me... as long as you have a working vkb that is easy to use and works in all apps then I for one am more yhan willing to pay. I'd suggest OVI because donation don't work on maemo from what I can tell. (saw very few donation to TouchSearch...)

But releasing source at the same time when you put it on OVI is not a good idea money-wise, that I'm sure.

I would suggest release the code after a few months when you've made a bit of income (like $500 USD) or something so it to pay off your hardwork before letting the code out for free. That if you think it worth some money for your hardwork. I would not mind to pay $3 NZD for it, $1NZD = $0.76USD

I'm happily contribute to your project for free.
