Use a friggin' Linux Live CD/DVD if you dont't want to install a distribution or use a pre-made VMWare player appliance, there are many available (load Ubuntu for example if you do not know better). Sheesh, it can't be easier than this. Better educate yourself than always keep requesting things only, or not? And learn how to use keywords people present you (like "VMWare Player", "applicane", and "Live CD") to get what you want / "need" from the web. It pays off in end, you know?

@freemangordon
I think I am having problems opening this test.avi...
Did this work for somebody else?

It works if you use mplayer (linux) or media player classic (windows). If you try to open it using windows media player by default in windows it won't recognize the codec.

Instead dsp codecs from N9/950 it is not possible to use one from ?
http://code.google.com/p/gst-dsp/downloads/list --> tidsp-binaries-23.i3.8.tar.gz
https://gforge.ti.com/gf/project/openmax/frs/
http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_...ios/index.html

Next:
/usr/lib/libbridge.so.2
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstdsp.so
both are opensource, so it can be normally redistributable:
https://meego.gitorious.org/maemo-multimedia/gst-dsp

And what change is in kernel module?

vlc plays it but not at the correct framerate (i.e. it plays the whole thing in under a second!) ; however mplayer copes fine.

Those does support resolutions up to WVGA and are crap compared to n900 stock.

Yep, agree, didn't have time to package libbridge. Re gst-dsp - Harmattan comes with gst-dsp which supports HD codecs and is different from what is available as opensource. And I was not able to find Harmattan gst-dsp sources anywhere.

CONFIG_BRIDGE_NEW_API=y (plus modificaions to Kbuild and Makefile to use this option). This is because gst-dsp from Harmattan is compiled against new DSP ioctls. And that is why we need new libbridge. Once I have my hands on gst-dsp Harmattan source I will recompile it against old ioctl codes, thus no longer new libbridge will be needed.
