first, get the image file:
http://qole.org/files/debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma

extract it using
Code:
lzma -d debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma
close the debian chroot, then edit the file "/home/user/.chroot" so the parameter "IMGFILE" points to the new image:
Code:
IMGFILE=/home/user/MyDocs/debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2

Well I have solved it now by rewriting the filepath to the file again, I don't know what was wrong really, must have been som character gone wrong.

Hello everyone,

I am semi new to Easy Debian, and I am trying to install a simple Linux command-line only program called TcpXtract within Easy Debian. I run
"sudo apt-get install tcpxtract". Apt-get does find the program in the repositories, and seems to install it, but also provides the following message at the end:

ldconfig: /usr/lib/libpulsecommon-0.9.15.so is not a symbolic link

The program (tcpxtract) seems to run though.

Can someone provide any thoughts on the meaning of the above message? Thanks!

Please download the Extras-devel version. You know where to post if it all goes wrong

Ok so far, decompression 3b image took less than 10 minutes... problem with themes, problem with Abiword resolved as per earlier postings.

Any reason you have the squeeze repositories disabled in the 3b image?

Puzzling behaviour of Abiword, when moving vertically via up / down arrow on auto-repeat... vertical bars are left behind on the screen -- they go away upon a screen refresh. Occurs with both debbie and lxde.

Thanks again for all the wonderful work!

I made a ubuntu lucid alfa version.
This is very very alfa. Openoffice 3.2 work, but the apt-get command is very broken, luckily the synaptic work well. I havn't tried to get the sound to work.
If someone want to try I have a link for downloading, but remember this is VERY ALFA and unstable so it's just for people like me that like to test new things and not afraid to reinstall firmware etc.
bz-version:

lzma-version:

I was wondering if someone could post a "must have" list of packages to download. I've tried to browse them but ther are so many and I'm not a linux apps specialist. I've downloaded claws mail for starters but that is it.

A "must have" list will depend too strongly on what you want to do with your N900 to be universally valid. I for example have a complete Latex installation, because I want to be able to process scientific documents produced by fellow scientists. Without exhausting too much of your free space in the Debian image, I would highlight the following things I found useful and which might be useful to many others:
  • djview4: a book/document reader of djvu files
  • vpnc: a VPN client to connect to Cisco concentrators, something that is not yet supported by a stable Maemo package
  • openssh-client: to directly connect to other computers from within the Debian chroot
  • gv: alternative postcript file viewer - once that is installed, the pre-installed evince also succeeds to render postscript files
  • cups-client: to print to network printers served by UNIX machines, if your network has some
  • xmaxima: a free symbolic Math program (Maple and Mathematica developed out of that actually)
  • zim: a desktop wiki editor for note taking - a real killer app in my opinion (somebody is working on a Maemo version, but within the Debian chroot, everything is already functional, including an editor for Latex formulae, once you've also installed latex and dvipng), see: http://zim-wiki.org/

Apropos zim: I like to run it through debbie so that I don't have to launch LXDE for it, but I found some glitches which I can only avoid by running it as "sudo debian su -c zim - user". With debbie, user does not get initialized properly - qole: do you have an idea why?

To those interested in using zim, I recommend the version from squeeze! And this is my application item to start from the Maemo desktop:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Zim
GenericName=Zim
Exec=sudo debian su -c zim - user
Icon=xournal
X-Osso-Type=application/x-executable
X-HildonDesk-ShowInToolbar=true
Terminal=true
Type=Application
StartupNotify=true
(I'm reusing the icon of xournal here, btw.) For this you need to create a file zim.desktop in the directory /usr/share/applications/hildon/.

Hey guys, i have a silly problem with openoffice, i opened Styles and Formatting and now i can't get out of that menu.. even if i close the openoffice and run it again, when i open a document, the menu pops out again. Would need ESC key or something. Is there no other solution than reinstalling it? that would be odd i guess..
