And still absolutly no change in their approch to the problem.

This is truly abismal. They seem more worried about backlash then actually providing the customer service that will stop it.

I now need to work out the next move. It is prolly time to take this to small claims court.

Or better, send pictures of the usb port with a copy of their warranty rejection to engadget (where it was first run) and other online review sites. I am sure iphone/android fan boys will love to spice up this Nokia mishandling all over their newsboards. Who knows, people might see a class action lawsuit brewing ...

Something is very wrong at that particular CARE center. The phones are supposed to be replaced...

The problem is that short of changing the motherboard design, even if they replace the broken N900s, it won't solve the problem.

Look at my pictures of the actual board: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=45385

That USB port will break off if you mishandle the phone in any way (and sometimes even if you don't). I think that at the moment I have the only permanent solution. It's ugly, it shouldn't have to be done, but what are the other options?

Ouch, what a punch in the face from Nokia. This is outrageous!

I'm starting to suspect that the real problem for Human Penguin is that his failure mode is different. Not excusing the service he's (not) getting, but I'm betting the directive for handling connector disengagement is very specific.

my n900 stopped charging after just 45 days, i've since attained a wall charger and an extra battery and am happy to use them instead of the cable. i've also spent over an hour dealing with nokia support who PROMISED to email me detailed information about returning the phone and NEVER did. i don't care so much about the usb functionality at all, i just want to be able to flash my device if needed (really pretty silly that there's no means to flash from storage). i see the notification about the latest update but, am too freaked to upgrade to it!

this device already cost $600+. how many more hours do i have to sacrifice to receive the goods i payed for?

so, is there some magic call center to call?

to date, i've used most of nokia's tablet series with GREAT success. with the n900 however, i've simply been ripped off!

i have a question for anyone who grinded or have an experience to be answered hopefully because today i got really paranoid and finally grinded my original n900 charger anyway grinded it with a metal file ( cut about 50% of the prongs ) but that made them look like they are not as curve as they were they look more bit flatter anyway the issue is now i need little little bit more force or about the same when plugging in but about 60% less force when unplugging is needed but the 1st time i plugged the charger after the grinding to the n900 my device recognized it as if it was a usb between laptop ( not as a charger ) they asked me if i need to use storage or pc suit & didnt charge which scared me so i unplugged the charger and plugged it again and it charged normally so did i do anything wrong to make the n900 recognize it like that? and is it okay thats its more flat now (the prongs) because they were more like a curve before? i'm really pisssed off by nokia they made us have all these troubles with a device as awsome as the N900...
thanks alot all hope to see a reply .. and if possible please Texrat if u can give me ur opinion .. i can upload a picture of the new prongs but they dont look too good in images

I'm wondering if maybe there were loose filings that may have caused a brief short... not sure. But that connector needs to be blown out good after filing.
