Ah, thanks, my bad. Time to dive into some code.

qwerty12, has Nokia hired you yet?

I reflashed my N810 and restored my apps/data. Everything except a few apps restored just fine, but I thought one of those bad apps was Tear because it wasn't showing the latest version number on the About screen, and it kept defaulting to the dashboard instead of the homepage I'd previously set, etc. What made me think something was really wrong was that not only were all my bookmarks missing, but so was the bookmark menu option (via the ^ icon). So I was thinking that for some reason it was reverting back to a really old version, likely because of some repository problem. After about two hours of troubleshooting and reinstalling, I realized that it was all good. Oops.

I hope this helps someone else. I guess I also hope that there's someone out there as stupid as me to encounter this problem which automatically makes me less stupid....or at least stupid in a group instead of by myself. Haha.

I did want to report that a reflash and a restore does seem to reset everything associated with Tear -- all my bookmarks and settings were gone. Is there a way I could've avoided that?

File me a bug for the backup please.

The missing -2 version is my mistake - when I was ready I didn't rebuild it after I changed the version.

Apologies for taking this long, I actually had a post typed up but disabling swap killed Leafpad.

I was trying to get a screenshot but I had swap enabled (thanks tso) on both devices (and leaving the file manager running overnight didn't help). :\

With the numerous pixbuf references in browser (pretty sure I saw some WM references in there too, I'll have to attach g-inspector to maemo-launcher again sometime), and the fact that hildon-desktop overlays an image in about the same position as MicroB does with favicons, is why I think hildon-desktop does what browser does.

If I am wrong, there are at least two widgets, with open code, which display the favicon set by MicroB.

At the least, their code could be checked to see if they do anything special or, if not, just display the icon - set by the program - as-is. If it does just display the icon as-is, then it's more in favour of browser compositing the icon.

P.S: Nice work on that browser.

Oh, just to check that it wasn't done in the engine, I built the extremely old tablet-browser-ui-with-source (*gasp*):

My reckoning is: It gets the browser icon from the WM/hildon-desktop or from the png directly, does a request for the favicon, composites it over the browser icon, and sets the new icon for the window.

webkit from http://repository.maemo.org has difference from your's.

Now I can build tear again.

Yes, the webkit in repository.maemo.org is not the latest.

Go to www.iwantoneofthose.com and surf around and tear will eventually crash.

I've noticed some problems with text input fields that seems to be related to trying to navigate up or left or possibly delete from the first character in the field. Several times now, I've entered a few lines of text in the (simple HTML) Gmail message box, or into the message box here, or elsewhere, then navigated using the d-pad back to the upper-left, then hit up or left or delete (or something), at which point Tear starts spinning the CPU at 100%. Luckily, it doesn't take the system with it, and it's possible to kill and restart the app, but then I've lost all that text I'd entered.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Maybe not your exact problem, but yes, I have text selecting issues that cause CPU suck. To me, it seems that the versions of webkit we've been using sometimes have a difficult time deciding what a word is.
